3.0 out of 5 stars Great Music - Shame About the Sound Quality July 13, 2004
By Tim
Format:Audio CD
I have today taken delivery of all 5 of the Bananarama albums that have been reissued by Collectables in the US. When I ordered them, I noticed that there was a suspicious lack of information about remastering on any website but still nothing could have prepared me for the disappointment over the sound quality of these new editions! They sound like poor bootlegs. Furthermore there are are no sleevenotes and not all the original artwork is included. 5 Stars for the music - 1 for the mastering!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great album remastered May 12, 2007
By William
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Since back in the day in 1984 have loved Bananarama, especially this album. I really dig the bonus tracks included such as the Rough Justice single radio version, Cairo is really catchy also. The Wild Life is nice to finally have on cd, also Live Now a great song they execute so well, should have been on the album and released as a single. Most of all the song Through a Child's Eyes really shines remastered, such a beautiful, powerful song, I wish they would release this song, it is a hit. Who cares if it was done back in 1984, it sounds just as good today, it should be put on the next album they do, and released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Line To Heaven, Indeed! March 30, 2007
Format:Audio CD
This reissue is way better than the US reissue. This album is darker in theme than the debut, but still very poppy & infectious, Cruel Summer & Robert Deniro's Waiting are classics & rank among the best the girls have done. The album has been remastered and has many bonus tracks, all of which are rare and terrific. The girls have finally been recognised for their talent & gotten some respect. God bless Rhino Records.

(Track listing follows.) As an album, "Bananarama" is a solid accomplishment, and proves that Keren, Sara and Siobhan's songwriting skills had matured since "Deep Sea Skiving." "Cruel Summer" would have been a better title for this collection of (mostly) socially-conscious themes and beach-friendly sounds. Not all is doom and gloom, but this is far and away the most thought-provoking album from the group to date. The Jolley & Swain production, generally upbeat and slightly whimsical, offers a contrast to lyrics about alienation, injustice and loss. It's a balancing act, and not every listener will find the contrast appealing.

Along with "Cruel Summer," this album produced hits like "Rough Justice," "Hot Line To Heaven" and "Robert DeNiro's Waiting," and this deluxe three disc set includes album/single and extended versions of them all. It also includes a non-lp track, "The Wild Life," in single, instrumental, extended and dub versions. The remainder of "bonus" tracks on discs one and two are b-sides, dub versions, and remixes. Of these, "Cairo," "Push!" and "Live Now" are especially notable. The 1989 "Swing Beat" remixes of "Cruel Summer" were produced by Stock Aitken Waterman over five years after the original version debuted, and in this reviewer's opinion they don't add much value to this collection.

The dvd in the set is one of the better compilations to come with these deluxe reissues, with seven promotional music videos, and four additional appearances on the BBC. And like the other Bananarama packages, the discs all come in a small hardcover book that also includes song lyrics, release notes, chart data, original album/single art, and an informative essay by reissue producer Tom Parker.

5.0 out of 5 stars bananarama early years May 28, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
this album was before the girls joined the hit factory of stock aitken and waterman and features some really good stuff including the fahey penned hit twice for the bluebells "young at heart". the sound is relatively raw compared to later recordings but never the less contains some real gems

4.0 out of 5 stars Bonus track selection could have been better.... February 26, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great to have this album reissued, and to finally include Wild Life on it, but it's hard to believe they missed the opportunity to include 12" versions and opted for 7" versions instead! It would have been great to have the 12" versions of Cruel Summer, Robert DeNiro's Waiting, and the full version of State I'm In from the b-side of the "hot line to heaven" single. All of the reissues of Bananarama's catalog make it clear that fans hunger for bonus tracks, but there are still so many mixes of their songs that have failed to make it to CD at last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh man, so glad I found this! May 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Well what a surprise when I found out that The Wild Life was an **extra**. I had this in album form in the 80's when it came out and The Wild Life was always a fav. Little did I know that this was not on the UK version. Great extra's on this and so the best Bananarama album there was.
