Book Description

January 1, 2000
This book will tell you how to grow the best species and cultivars of banans in tropical climates, those that do best in patio containers, the best-tasting, and those with ornamental flowers, foliage or fruits. It walks you through the basics of where to purchase your first plants, how to plant them, year-round care, and more. The color photos and information in the Quick Views section, describing 66 different varieties, will help you compare and select the best for your conditions. Bananas have exotic and ornamental foliage: many have edible and delicious fruit. They are excellent grown in the ground in mild climates and also grow well in containers in cooler northern climates. A few species are hardy enough to grow outdoors in temperate gardens. Even beginning gardeners can grow bananas with very little experience and expertise. Growing bananas can change your garden point of view.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Banana Resource!, July 4, 2009

This review is from: Bananas You Can Grow (Paperback)
This is probably the most authoritative, excellent book on bananas I have ever found. If you want details of each banana type available, along with the zones they grow in, this is the book you need. I live in VA, and have been growing Musa Basjoo for years, which get about 18' tall annually without the need to dig them up every winter. I wanted to add a few different varieties, and this book is giving me new ideas/inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bananas You Can Grow, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Bananas You Can Grow (Paperback)
If you want to have a unique experience get this book and grow a few bananas from seeds or plants, both of which are readily available online.

Plenty of information for either the novice or the experienced. Great color pictures.

Well worth the investment.
