In September of 2007 I was diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma. These carcinomas are one of the non-metastatic skin cancers. My carcinoma was removed in my dermatologist's office. Prior to the removal I had showered and scrubbed the area where the cancer was located. The woman who removed the cancer also scrubbed the site. I planned to use this particular bandage and I believed it was important that it only be used over a wound that was recent and very clean. The cancer was excised and I had 5 stitches to close the removal area. At the time of the excision I was told that I should remove my bandage, apply an antibiotic ointment and re-bandage the wound two times a day. I was not given a prescription for oral antibiotics. Prior to the excision I had researched this type of bandage. They are a type of bandage called a "HYDROCOLLOID". They have been used after surgeries for about twenty years. Their successful use over stitches (also called, "sutures") is well researched and documented. The product information on these bandages says not to use them over stitches, however, because I knew that extensive research showed them to be fine for use over stitches, I decided to use them anyway. I also knew from my research prior to the excision, that it was considered desirable to leave this dressing/bandage on for at least 5 days before changing. Therefore, I ignored the recommendation made at the doctor's office and left the bandage on for 5 days before each change. I did not use any topical antibiotics. After two weeks I went back to the doctor's office to get my stitches removed. I told them that I had used this hydrocolloid bandage and that I had only changed the bandage twice since the surgery. When they removed the bandage and stitches they remarked that the wound looked remarkably well-healed and that scarring seemed unusually light. I would suggest looking up HYDROCOLLOID bandages on the Internet to get more information on them. Also, I WOULD ONLY USE THESE BANDAGES ON A WOUND THAT IS VERY CLEAN, UNINFECTED AND LESS THAN A FEW HOURS OLD. I like this bandage because it stayed on very well, limited the amount of cleaning, medication and re-bandaging I needed to do and I had very little scarring.

The perfect bandage for scrapes and cuts,

Recently, I skinned my knuckle and I lost a 3/4" by 1/4" patch of skin. In the past when I've skinned knuckles, it took a long while to heal, with the scab growing slowly and cracking due to the movement of the skin and re-scabbing over the period of a couple weeks. This time, I washed it out with soap and water and, after rinsing and drying thoroughly, I covered it with one of these Activ-flex bandages. It didn't sting, conformed to the skin around my knuckles, and sealed out the air and water very well. Each bandage has survived showers (sometimes twice!). The first day, a lot of liquid accumulated under the bandage, and I was apprehensive about taking it off, but other than some clear blister liquid, things looked normal. A word of advice, when removing, grab one edge and stretch the band-aid parallel to the skin and it leaves almost no residue. After four days and three bandages, my knuckle is almost completely healed with no scarring or pain. As someone who uses more than his share of band-aids, I will be using activ-flex bandages for any home-treatable scrape or cut.

I work an active job where I'm on my feet 8-12 hours a day, 5-7 days a week. New boots gave me a blister on one foot, and I ended up giving these band-aids a try. They are outstanding. I put one on and didn't have to take it off for the next week... through the work days, the showers, changing of shoes, it held up and stayed adhered. When I finally did take it off, the blister underneath was nearly healed. Pair this product with some Band-Aid Friction Block and you never have to worry about blisters again. I highly recommend it.
