5.0 out of 5 stars Another great film score by Max Steiner, June 25, 2010
By
This review is from: Band of Angels (Audio CD)
This movie score perhaps has not received its due because of the great body of work done by Max Steiner, especially his epic compositions for landmark Hollywood film productions. The movie is about the waning days of the Civil War and a plantation owner's stormy relationship with his mulatto mistress as the Union troops establish their presence and assert law and order as the old southern way of life becomes a thing of the past. The cues have a nostalgic quality, perhaps as a nod the way things were in the antebellum south. Clark Gable and Yvonne de Carlo were the main stars and Sidney Poitier and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. also had prominent roles in the movie. The film title refers to a newly-formed regiment of black soldiers commissioned to aid the Union army near the war's end.
