Great jams!,

I generally find it refreshing to hear other interpretations of Jimi's work, and that's what you get here. The different guitarists (Andy Aledort, Rick "Hendrix", James Nixon, Gary Serkin, Kenny Olson, Eric Gales, and Sheldon Reynolds) that appear with Miles and Cox do the songs great justice. Billy Cox is right on with the bass as is Buddy Miles with the drums. This is one very solid album, unlike some compilations of various musicians doing Hendrix. Don't take my opinion. Buy it and try it out for yourself. You have seen the other opinion that it was a "sad" piece of work. I wouldn't take that opinion. By the way, you can buy a signed copy of this (signed by Billy Cox) on Jimi's website and for no extra signature fee.

If Jimi was alive he would have sounded like this! My hat is off to the late Buddy Miles and Billy Cox of the original Band of Gypsys. This recording is cranking!!!

A Huge Welcome Back For A Pair Of Legends,

This review is from: The Band of Gypsys Return (Audio CD)
The Band of Gypsys became the creative venue for Jimi Hendrix to merge the elements of jazz, funk, R&B and avant-garde into a truly artistic canvas that was destined to revolutionize the rock sound. And it was Billy Cox (b) and Buddy Miles (d) who energized Hendrix to push forward to this new frontier.
In these nine cuts - four are live - and a bonus DVD of studio recording sessions, an electrifying live performance and interviews, Cox and Miles create a fitting tribute to Hendrix while keeping the sound fresh with seven guitarists, who have very unique styles. The live performance by Eric Gales on the DVD cut is worth the price of admission. Andy Aledort lets the music do the talking on Machine Gun and Power Of Soul. Kenny Olson has one mean solo on Stone Free, with Cox handling lead vocals. This is an outstanding package from the rhythm section of one of the greatest bands ever, which was produced in conjunction with Experience Hendrix, L.L.C.

Buddy Miles needs to let go of this obsession he has with continuing to link his musical personality with his old buddy Jimi. Miles has his own high-level of musical abilities and needs to separate himself from the past. Just doesn't seem healthy to me. He is an amazing drummer in his own right: NO ONE is better with creating the pocket and groove for a band, bar NONE. I just wish him good things after having met him about ten years ago at a blues club in Chicago. He is a very, very thoughtful and gentle person.
