Book Description

Band Together December 8, 2008
Left feeling bitter and angry after being passed around multiple foster homes, city boy Max Coburn finds himself grudgingly on the doorstep of a drab rural farm house. Dreaming only of freedom and creating his own music, Max fights to remain invisible to everyone around him. With the exception of a beat-up old guitar and his lyrics, he stays hidden in his room emotionless to his new environment. When a bully takes him on at school, Max finds his new lifestyle being stripped away.

About the Author

Born on September 24, 1952, Angela Clarke is a Canadian author who resides in her country home in Ontario. Her novels to date feature the concerns to teenagers including social issues such as bullying, drugs, music, environmental concerns and solving conflicts with family and friends. She highlights one character Max Coburn who lives in foster care. Angela has traveled internationally to both Eastern Europe and Africa with small citizens’ groups. She traveled to Azerbaijan with a group of women representing a broad spectrum and interests of Canadian society who were invited to a women’s conference in Baku on the Caspian Sea. This group was coordinated by an NGO accredited to the United Nations in New York known as Campaign for the Earth. Angela’s participation upon going to Azerbaijan was to focus on children by taking toys to share in Baku. Her enthusiasm created a close connection with the children in the community when she distributed the toys she had brought, teaching them to use skipping ropes, colouring books, and play ‘catch’ with rubber balls. When the children wanted to learn a game reflecting her culture she explained how to play baseball but didn’t have sports equipment. With the help of her translator she encouraged the children to use a fence post for a baseball bat. Then she found a vacant area and turned it into a playground. At the time of departure, this community gave a grand send-off waving Canadian flags as the bus pulled away. This excursion prompted Angela to go to Malawi Africa with a tour group. She stopped at each village and distributed toys and slippers to the children and elderly women who wore no shoes. Her recent attendance to the Beijing Conference at the United Nations has impelled her to become involved in landmine removal. : M. Ashby United Nations, NGO Angela has two grown children, Vincent and Carie. Her hobbies are carpentry, skydiving, gardening, skiing in fresh powder, horseback riding in the jungle, canoeing in Muskoka or off-roading anywhere there is sand. In the fall she enjoys hiking on winding trails and still loves to have bonfires with family and friends. Her present to-do list is to complete the remaining covers for the continuing Band Together series and record the music that goes with them. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
