That's right! The beauty lies in how you notice the Diamond. So, what is for some the stuff to die for, for others it is no more than a piece of stone to throw away.

With Bandit Queen, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan transcended the gap between Indian Classical and Folk music. The album also contains some extremely difficult musical notes ever sung in the history of music.

The music aptly reflects the childhood crumbling of dreams, new found love and then the long chase, which ended with the death of the beloved. Taking classical notes from India, mixing them with local and occidental instruments, Nusrat creates a new genre which were to subsequently become his trademark in the history of Indian Films.

The extensive use of Ragas Des, Mand and Khamaj lends to the haunting sound which recreates the haunting ravines of the Chambal Valley. The chants and the clamour also recreate rural india for the listeners. The percussion is easy on the ear, though consisting of complex Sufi rhythms.

A must buy for any music lover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accessible music featuring Nusrat Ali Fateh Khan, December 4, 2003

Music from the soundtrack to the film "Bandit Queen." The three basic components are Nusrat Ali Fateh Khan's vocals, Roger White's synthesizer washes, and drumming. Occasionally there are other voices, other instruments (flutes, some kind of strings instruments), and incidental sounds. The cuts with the additional instruments beyond the synthesizer and drums tend to be more melodic. The ones with the synthesizer and drums only tend to be fairly "atmospheric." The late Nusrat Ali Fateh Khan's vocals are astonishing.
