This review is from: Bandits on the Information Superhighway: What You Need to Know (Paperback)
While most people on the internet are who and what they say they are, there are those who are not. This book will give you a heads-up for protecting yourself and your computer from falling victim to scams, schemes and dreams.
This is part of the O'Reilly 'What You Need to Know' book series and an invaluable source of tips, guidelines and tools you need to keep you safe. It's filled with anecdotes and advice about buying and selling personal items on the internet, how to spot a scam and where to go for help if you get ripped off. It looks at protecting your privacy online in terms of email and news.
Published in 1996, it is still a valid guide to internet safety.
This book hits home in its chapters about meeting and falling in love with people you meet online. You do NOT know anyone you have met online till you've met them face to face and spent a considerable time with them. Online relationships can grow fast and hot but it's a surreal environment where your fantasy fuels the dialog.
This book is wonderful in highlighting some disasterous online encounters. I know; mine is one of them.
