A fun adventure book.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bandit's Moon (Hardcover)
Annyrose is just twelve years old, but she's already an orphan, and she's stranded with a mean, thieving old woman on a California ranch while her brother mines for gold. When a famous outlaw, Joaquin Murieta, attacks the ranch, the last thing Annyrose expects him to do is rescue her. But that's what he does. Annyrose is disguised as a boy, and Joaquin allows her to ride with him in exchange for reading lessons. Annyrose is determined to find her brother, though. Will she ever find him or is she stuck with the outlaws, whose thieving and murderous ways she dissaproves of? This action packed novel is a fun, quick read, and spunky Annyrose and the other characters jump from the pages and come alive. A great book.

A Kid's Review

This review is on a book called Bandit's Moon by Sid Fleishman. What I liked about this book is that the author described very well what was going on. You could imagine yourself being there. My favorite character was Annyrose because she never gave up on finding her long lost brother. She would also keep a secret and not tell anyone that she was a friend with a bandit. I would recommend this book to someone who likes adventures.

The book I am reviewing is Bandit's Moon, by Sid Fleischman. It was an ok kind of book. My favorite part was when Annyrose found Lank, her long lost brother. That was my favorite part because that was one of the most exciting events that happened in the story. I would recommend it to someone who likes a good mystery. Breathless,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bandit's Moon (Hardcover)
Fleischman has created an appealing adventure story about a bandit and the girl who comes to respect him amid difficult moral questions. Right from page one we are catapulted into the plot, which rambles speedily along to the end. He doesn't mince words much or spend a lot of time dallying with character depth - these characters are to be judged by what they do. There is good use of plot twists too. Quick and fun.

Book Review on "Bandit's Moon",
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Bandit's Moon (Hardcover)
"Bandit's Moon" is a great book for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I'm a 5th grader and I loved it! It's about a girl named Annyrose Smith who gets left by her brother at a woman named O.O.Mary's house. O.O. Mary sells all of Annyrose's things she even cuts off all her hair and sells it! The story takes place during the Gold Rush in California. The Bandit Joaquin Murita comes and Annyrose asks him to take her with him. He takes her and she teaches him how to read. One of my favorite parts in this book is when Joaquin proves all his friends wrong that he did learn to read. This is a must read for people who love adventure.Go out there and buy this book!

Sid Fleischman has taken an historical character and created a story that is riveting. An excellent choice for students studying the western expansion - a view not always seen.

Mother-Daugher Book Club Review,

This review is from: Bandit's Moon (Paperback)
This book is about Annyrose Smith and her unusual friend Joaquin Murieta. Annyrose starts off living with a woman by the name of O. O. Mary who treats her worse than an animal. One day, O.O. Mary hears that Joaquin Murieta is coming and he's looking for her. O. O. Mary sets Annyrose loose to fend for herself, and O.O. Mary escapes from town. Joaquin happens upon Annyrose and mistaking her for a boy he takes her off on his bandit's adventures throughout California during the Gold Rush Period.Annyrose is a proper, young girl who was raised to do the appropriate things. In the beginning of the novel, Joaquin and Annyrose understand very little about each other. It's interesting to watch their relationship grow througout the story. All the girls (average age, 10) liked the story tremendously; however, they all felt that it had a slow beginning. I do believe that the character of Annyrose was a wonderful main character and girls can find a lot of strength in this character. |
