Bandy was one of many wild canada geese visting Marcia's pond - and yet he was special and brave and drew her attention. Since he wore a band she was able to identify him and enjoy his repeat visits. Unfortunately, Bandy became injured which caused him to lose status with the geese - however, the bond between Bandy and Marcia strengthened and this story is very much about their special relationship. It is easy to feel the love that Marcia has for Bandy and to find oneself rooting hard for Bandy.

If you enjoy stories about special animals, this book is for you. I was originally nervous to read it, thinking it may be too sad for me. But while it is, of course, sad that Bandy was injured, the book doesn't stop there or even dwell on this. Rather the story continues with Bandy's courage, intelligence, and special friendship with Marcia. I read the book in just a couple of hours and then ordered another copy to give as a gift. It is the kind of story you want to share.

Marcia Martin has a gift for storytelling, and in her warm and open and down-to-earth style, she shares with us an amazing and enchanting story about her friendship with a very special one-legged Canada goose named Bandy. It is a story about compassion and dedication, love and trust, and what we can learn from nature and its denizens about adversity. Indeed, Bandy has much to teach us about courage and perseverance and resilience, and by telling his story, Marcia Martin has given us a most wonderful and inspiring gift.

In stark contrast to human strife and the tragic events of our present world, Bandy is a wonderful story of love and compassion. It teaches important lessons about life and true happiness.

The book's prose is lyrical as it chronicles the real life experiences of the author's developing relationship with a courageous and affectionate one-legged Canada goose named Bandy. Bandy is a wonderfully engaging book about the bond between Marcia and Bandy. Anyone who loves animals will relate to this story of love and the desire to care for a creature that needs our assistance. Bandy responds to Marcia's love by returning time and again to let her know he is okay.

Bandy is not just another animal book. It is a story of true love, selfless devotion and faithfulness between a lady and her goose. Bandy is a courageous gander who has faced tough challenges in his life. After losing a leg, he loses his sweetheart. Then he almost loses his life. Thankfully, he has a true friend in Marcia, who goes all out to ensure his safety and comfort, in the face of all odds.

From the moment I picked up Marcia Martin's book, I could not put it down. And I am not an avid reader so that is saying a lot! I am certain that anyone who reads this wonderful, engaging (to put it mildly) story, will feel exactly the same way.

Bandy is a testament to the power of love, faith, and friendship and is a great read for animal lovers and children alike. This is a delightful, heartwarming story that will leave you pondering your own reactions to the trials and tribulations of life. Three honks for Bandy!

Bandy is the story of a caring friendship between an injured Canadian wild goose and the author who lived with her husband on a private pond in Massachusetts when she first befriended Bandy the wild goose. What eventually developed after his yearly sojourn to warmer weather is that upon Bandy's return he had lost one of his feet.

Thus began a series of health-related events, including hospitalization when Bandy acquired an infection, and a lot of worry as to whether he would be able to adapt and survive in the wild. There were many anxious moments when it did not appear promising.

This is a sweet and touching story of love and dedication from human to wildlife and vice versa. It is written with ease and warmth and thoroughly succeeds in keeping the reader glued to the pages from beginning to end.

One cannot help but compare Bandy with one of my favorite books of all time with a similar theme: Enslaved by Ducks by Bob Tarte. If you have not read this book, you are deprived.

Thank goodness Bandy is a story with a happy ending where faith, love and trust prevail. A real feel-gooder!
