BOAC's best recording yet,
By Buddy "Music Fan" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bang on a Can Meets Kyaw Kyaw Naing (Audio CD)
Bang on a Can All Stars are the single greatest ensemble performing 20th century music today. Their recordings of Riley's In C and Eno's Music for Airports were landmark achievements. This new collaboration with Kyaw Kyaw Naing is unlike anything they've put out before. Every track is a gem. If you're even reading this then you already know what these folks can do. Check out www.bangonacan.org to listen to mp3 samples then go out and buy it.

This is probably the very first recording showcasing a collaborative effort between Burmese and Western musicians. The music is mostly traditional Burmese - but with the western musicians showing a complete mastery of the Burmese components. Worthy of a standing ovation - and worthy of being included in any serious jazz/international/modern classical collection. The last piece "Sein Ozi" (which translates to "Diamond Drum") is exceptional.
