3.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as Silent Steeples
admittedly, i'm a huge dispatch fan, but this album isn't nearly as good as their first effort, silent steeples... this album seems to be a lot more reggae-influenced than the first, and i just think that their attempts at it are somewhat awkward...

the CD provides some good songs - here we go, mission, and drive are all solid songs - and some of their more...

Dispatch (formerly One Fell Swoop) is amazing. I have not stopped listening to this cd since I got it. It is just song after good song. My personal favorites are "Here We Go," "The General," "Bang Bang" and "Drive." These guys can be compared to many different bands. The most obvious comparison would be to Guster, both have amazing vocals and great diverse drums. However, the General, is a very jammable song which leads to a mention of Phish the best jam band currently. The vocals and lyrics can even be compared to G Love. My friends have also told me that particular songs sound like reminiscent Sublime to them. I dunno about that one. What I do know is that this band is incredible. I am going to be upset when the radio plays their songs until I hate them. You must buy this cd. You will love it. End of Story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dispatch rules!, May 14, 2001

This is an incredible cd and I recommend it to anyone who likes good music. Dispatch is described as a tri-vocal funk acoustic rhythem regae groove band or something like that. If you like Sublime, Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Dave Matthews you'll like Dispatch. You can put this cd in and listen to it the whole way through. There isn't a bad track on the entire album. I recommend buying all Dispatch's cds and checking them out live they rule. They played the napster benefit concert so you can check them out on napster too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Late comer to Dispatch music, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
but all I can say is better late than never. These guys were a great band and it would be sweet to seem them come back together again. I now own every Dispatch CD, but this one is like a greatest hits compilation, every tune is THAT good. They are the best indie rock band I've ever heard and likely the best I'll ever hear. "The General" makes me want karaoke, "Mission", "Here we go", "Bats in the Belfry" and "Whirlwind" are great rockers, while "Out Loud" and "Two Coins" are acoustic gems. "Bang bang" and Railway Station" are hypnotic and intelligent rap-like tunes. The only thing that I find confounding is how their stuff never made it to the airwaves, it's better than 99.9% of the stuff out there. As much as I like other Indie bands like O.A.R. and Guster, those bands just can't measure up to Dispatch. Check them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divine Dispatch, October 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
The band Dispatch has created a winner with its album Bang Bang. The incredible instrumental work (acoustic, percussion) and vocals make every song on this album a listening treat. The lyrics are just as amazing as the music it is put to; they are poetry in themselves. The songs are mostly calm and easy to listen to but mixed in with a few fun, upbeat tracks as well. Personal favourites of mine include track #3, "The General,"- a phenomenal song that one could listen to over and over again- and track #4, "Bang Bang," among others. The band deserves all the accolades possible, they are truly amazing. Anyone who buys this CD will surely not be disappointed. Bravo! I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars DISPATCH IS AMAZING, December 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
this album is trully unlike most ive ever listened to. The bands unique style of acoustics and percussion gives them such a great sound. Its one of those cd's that you can just put in and listen to the whole thing strait through. When listening to it its not a point of trying to filter out the not so good ones, but rather to choose which ones are even more amazing that the others. Which in very hard to do considering every one is different and amazing. However i definatly think that "The general" and "Bats in the Belfry" are byfar two of the best songs i have ever heard. I recomend this cd to anyone, its impossible to not instantly fall in love with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, March 6, 2002

Ok, i'll admit it, i just got into Dispatch after hearing the general. But then I bought this CD, and was blown away. The variety, the intensity, the emotion, everything in this album is suburb. The first 5 tracks are unforgetable, the lyrics of every song intelligent, thought provoking and ingenious. Who else, the first time they heard Bang Bang, and understood the story, was amazed. This CD is a true package, with every song representing the very best of this band's talent. Here We Go, Bats in the Bellfry, The General, Two Coins, Bang Bang, and the rest will all become your favorite songs. You will obsess over them like everyone else, and will travel for miles to see this band perform. I guarentee it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but still Dispatch, February 19, 2003
By
This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
Of the Dispatch CDs I own (four official studio releases, one offical live release, and six bootleg concerts), this is my least favorite. However, it's still probably the best introduction to Dispatch, excluding Four Day Trials.

The album has some of their most popular tracks, including "The General" (best track on the album), "Here We Go," "Mission," and "Two Coins." The problem is, Four Day Trials has better versions of "Here We Go" and "Mission" (with an extra verse added to "HWG" and the other great tracks (ex: "The General," "Two Coins," "Out Loud") are best performed live.

In addition, although "Bang Bang" is a perrenial favorite of Dispatch fans, it is included on this album (in less inspired version than live) and is my least favorite Dispatch song.

A couple of the tracks on the album ("Whirlwind" for example) sound like filler material to me, as opposed to Silent Steeples (debut acoustic release) which is all great.

Overall, however, I still give this album 4 stars. Why? Well, this is the album I first heard, I loved it, and it persuaded me to get some more Dispatch. This is the only place you'll find a studio version of "The General" (it's on the Gut the Van and most bootleg concerts, but generally in Electric form), and it does cover all the Dispatch basics: acoustic, electric, funk, reggae, etc.

If you've not listened to Dispatch before, I recommend this album. For Dispatch-virgins, it is arguably the most accessible, and has several of their staples.

Farrell

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music for when you're kickin it with your friends, February 20, 2002
This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
This is the first cd that I bought by Dispatch. After hearing their song "The General" on the radio, I couldn't stop myself from buying the album. Every song is full of outstanding lyrics and great acoustic guitar. There isn't a bad song on the album, and it's one of those cds that gets better with every listen. When I'm kicking it with my friends and we're sipping on some brew, Dispatch just gos along so nicely. Adults who actually appreciate good music even though it's not the old stuff that they used to listen to, will love dispatch. The lyrics are amazing, I'd recommend this album to anyone with any music taste whatsoever.

4.0 out of 5 stars An all around great album, June 27, 2002

This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
How every single rock fan throughout the world has not heard of Dispatch will remain a mystery to me. They're not only a band that have unlimited potential, but a band that taps into the talent they currently have. Not only do I have incredible respect for them due to their talent, but because during the entire Napster saga Dispatch came out in full support of MP3 sharing. Take that last fact for what it's worth, but I think it states alot about them as musicians.

When I listen to an album like "Bang Bang" I can't help but to kick off my shoes and relax. I can sit back and truely admire the music, because the guitar work, especially on "The General", gives you something to smile about. Dispatch seems to come together as a well oiled machine, as lyrics are spat and sung in a smooth hip hop flow that can be enjoyed by a variety of audiences.

The album in itself has many great tracks, which sprinkle themselves throughout it. Songs such as "Here We Go", "The General", "Bang Bang", "Mission" and "Drive" stand above the rest.

Fans of Sublime are sure enjoy Dispatch, as well as a variety of other rock fans as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feel-Good Album, September 6, 2005
By
Tricky "Rich" (Murfreesboro, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bang Bang (Audio CD)
Dispatch is a small band with large amounts of talent. They took something they love and turned it into a listener's passion. Something that can be expressed from similar and new perspectives.

Dispatch recorded this album, Bang Bang, with a different kind of flare that their previous and the albums to come didn't have. The tones and movement were different from one track to the next but unified the release all the way to the last track with the same energy. The band incorporates an earthy acoustic sound with tight harmonies using the styles of reggae and ska.

Even though this album has a defined transitional sound, for them specifically, the album as a whole is very catchy and slightly emotional. It portrays an underground style that had/has potential of becoming something of the popular music culture. It's a feel-good album. I highly recommend it.
