3.0 out of 5 stars "Super Hits" is Super Shoddy.
I love the Bangles and I can't understand why Sony Special Music Products wants to cheapen their image by releasing this bargain-bin compilation. With the release of their 1990 "Greatest Hits" album, all of the Bangles' hit singles were featured, as well as gems like "Following" and "I'll Set You Free," the rare B-side "Where Were You...

I love the Bangles and I can't understand why Sony Special Music Products wants to cheapen their image by releasing this bargain-bin compilation. With the release of their 1990 "Greatest Hits" album, all of the Bangles' hit singles were featured, as well as gems like "Following" and "I'll Set You Free," the rare B-side "Where Were You When I Needed You?" and the previously unreleased track "Everything I Needed." Don't mistake this cheap imitation for the real deal. Purchase "Greatest Hits" for initiation. Any Bangles music is good music (my reason for the three stars rating) but anybody dumb enough to mistake this disc for their original "Greatest Hits" album deserves to be ripped off. [And as for the previous reviewer's evisceration of their "Everything" LP, pay no attention. "Everything" is the best collection of original material released by the Bangles.] By the way, purchase the "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Vol. 2" Soundtrack; it features a brand-new Bangles song: "Get the Girl." Get the Girl? Get the Soundtrack!

If you're going to buy a greatest hits package by The Bangles, buy their 1990 release "Greatest Hits". This release is nothing but a cash grab for their record company and it doesn't even feature all of their hits. Avoid this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice collection for one of My favorities Pop/Rock group, September 17, 2002

I disagree with the preview opinions which said it is not a good CD. I have bought this CD and I think it is a good 'Bangles' collection. This CD contains all the four (4) Bangles greatest hits: "Eternal Flame" (the best all-time ballad), "Walk like an Egiptian", "Manic Monday" and "If She Knew What She Wants". All great songs !. The other songs: "James", "September Gurls", "Hero Takes A Fall" etc ... will not disappoint you (I also like they very much, they are really good music except "Live"). I think it is worth while to buy this CD. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Walk Like An Egyptian, November 3, 2008
This review is from: Super Hits (Audio CD)
This CD contains classic camp hits like Walk Like an Egyptian, Manic Monday and Eternal Flame which hold up well today. When I was a kid in the 80s, the Walk Like An Egyptian track wasn't played like it was on this CD. I'm not the biggest Bangles fan, but I am a fan of 80s new wave, so I give it 3 stars for Manic Monday, Eternal Flame and Walk Like An Egyptian. It's o.k. for an all girl band.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brief, non-definitive...but all great music!!!, November 29, 2003
This review is from: The Bangles Super Hits (Audio CD)
My opinion of this collection falls somewhere inbetween the positive and negative reviews. I had already owned the 1990 Greatest Hits CD for years, but decided to buy this because:

A)it contains more non-hit album tracks than the proper GH collection.

B)I have not heard any of the original albums in their entirety, but didn't feel like shelling out the $ for all of them. I thought this would be a good supplement.

C) It was cheap.

Considering my reasoning, I can't say I was dissapointed. Yes, the 1990 GH is more definitive, but it doesn't tell the whole story. This Super Hits CD expanded my Bangles horizon.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Shoddy Sampler, September 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bangles Super Hits (Audio CD)
This album is missing way too many great Bangles songs. Get the individual albums instead. To really have the best Bangles material, get:

1. Getting Out Of Hand/Call On Me -- their first single on Downkiddie Records. If you can still find it.

2. The Bangles EP, on Faulty Records. Raw, rockin', less polished than their subsequent stuff, but better off for it. Also hard to find, but well worth the search.

3. All Over The Place -- their first LP. This is a greatest-hits collection all by itself.

4. Different Light -- a great, polished album, with many of their biggest hits.

You can safely forget their last album, "Everything." That one was lousy compared to the above offerings. You'll spend a bit more to get these selections, but it will be worth it compared to buying this entirely non-definitive "hits" collection.
