Good stuff.,
This review is from: Bangzilla (Audio CD)
An incredible album. Although I know him from Hello Nasty and To the Five Boroughs, this is my first actual Mix Master Mike album and I must say it's amazing what Mix Master Mike can do when released from the production overview of others.Think of it as a hip-hop/turntablism opera of sorts. Each track is distinct and yet they flow seamlessly into each other, each successive one elaborating on the last, finally concluding in a dramatic bass explosion (if you will) on track 13, The Joust.

Compared to Anti-Theft Device,
By John Smith is Insane (Oklahoma, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bangzilla (Audio CD)
While Anti-Theft Device uses scratching more as a motif in the background of flowing samples and dope beats, Bangzilla pushes forward with more scratching upfront and a less dystopic feel. It's only downfall is if you prefer a more produced and song-like flow that was persistent on Anti-Theft Device. While Anti-Theft feels almost excessive with its many layers, Bangzilla feels more spontaneous and has more braggadocio, favoring furious scratching and more abrupt rhythms than Anti-Theft. While Anti-Theft lends itself more to being used as `background music' Bangzilla is a record you can't ignore while on, because of its nature. That may be a good or a bad thing depending on if you are impressed more by song composition(ATD) or technical riffing(Bangzilla). Which record you prefer will largely depend on whether you want more focused journey or insane cuts.

The Mix Master,

This review is from: Bangzilla (Audio CD)
Mix Master Mike has done it again, with his latest album Bangzilla he demonstrates once again that he is the true Mix Master. Bangzilla is the Mix Master on two turn tables making his songs fresh from many cuts, alot like the style of Anti-Theft Device. I would recommend this album to anyone interested even the slightest in turntableizm. A must buy!
