Review

“A great off-beat debut novel with a likeable heroine and a fun, original storyline.” (Karen Chance, New York Times bestselling author)

Kindling the Moon rocks like AC/DC on Saturday night. This book has it all: great writing, action, romance, a strong heroine, a unique hero, and the best teenager ever. I can’t wait for the next one.” (Ann Aguirre, national bestselling author)

Kindling the Moon engaged me from page one. I loved it! I immediately adored the heroine, Arcadia Bell. This book is packed from cover to cover with unpredictable twists, heart-pounding action, and heated sexual tension." (Anya Bast, New York Times bestselling author)

“Debut author Jenn Bennett takes the familiar ideas of magic, demons, and mythology, and she gives us something sexy, fun, and genuinely unique in Kindling the Moon. Arcadia Bell is a sassy, whip-smart addition to the growing pantheon of urban fantasy heroines, and Bennett an author to watch!”
(Kelly Meding, author of Three Days to Dead)

"Bennett quickly establishes that her terrific debut was no fluke, delivering another riveting tale featuring gutsy renegade magician Cady Bell. Bennett does a stellar job blending character development with plenty of supernatural mystery and peril. A series for your keeper shelf!" (Romantic Times Magazine, Top Pick)

"Jenn Bennett has created another amazing novel filled with strong characters, magical surprises, and quirky humor." (Tynga's Reviews)

When we last saw Cady she was recovering from the attack from Dare of the Hellfire Club and a shocking discovery, she is expecting. But that is only the start of the problem, according to her guardian her mother is gathering power on the other side and is planning to take over her body. Her only hope is to go on a trip to discover her past, learn how she became the Moonchild, and to face off against the most dangerous demon of all - her mother. But why is there patches of her memory missing and why does she feel like she knows Lon more than she thinks she does?

Of the endings to several urban fantasies, this was one of the best ones (Raines Banares was another one, and am kind of sad that the Hollows series is ending soon). The author wrapped everything up neatly, with great pacing of the story, development of existing characters and a few new ones (like Jupes new friend), and the inner turmoil of a young lady who will be expected to put all on the line to stop a crazed individual from taking all she holds dear. If you have not started this series I strongly suggest you do and see why this will be part of the best urban series out there.

I have to say I fell in love with this series and I am so sad to see it end but the author takes it out on top and ties up all the loose ends so I am ok with having to say bye to it. We get back into the series by finding Cady and Lon picking up the pieces after the ending that pretty much tore me apart and left me with a hole in my heart. I love Cady more and more though because with all that happened to her she is so strong and resolved to not let it get her down. She is a true fighter and the love between her and Lon makes it all a little bit easier for her to handle because she has him to lean on. As we get more into the story we learn that Cady is racing aganist the clock to find out how she was conceived to take down her murderous mother. I have to say I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what her mom was so ruthless and cold blooded towards her own child. As we get more into the story there is something that takes place that left me feeling a little thrown for a loop but I loved the direction the author was taking and in the end it all worked out for the best. We got to also see Jupe more on his own although the direction he was taking I was hoping it all worked out for him and he wasn’t digging a big hole for himself to need help getting out of. I loved how resourceful and smart this kid was though and would love if the author made a spin off series for him as he gets older. Cady’s powers get amped up in this book and I loved seeing her come to grips with all of it. She really held herself together well with all that was thrown at her. Overall I think the author wrapped up this series in a perfect way. I had a few times in the book that I thinking Cady wasn’t going to make it through but she managed to pull through.Read more ›

Banishing The Dark

What can I say about such a fantastic series ending? It is bittersweet and with regret that I turned the last page, but Jenn Bennett gave us the perfect ending to the series!

Arcadia Bell had just been beaten and sent Priya*her new and improved guardian* to go get help. She was able to use an impressive ability of fire to burn Dare and his men to ashes....and oh yeah Dr. Mick told her that although she was near death the baby seemed to be doing fine! Cady was shocked to learn she would be a mother. She was happy but worried that her mother would find out she was pregnant and try to use the baby to get to her. Now with so much to lose Lon, Jupe, Kar Yee, and the Holidays, Cady knows she needs to find a way to find the answer to the spell her mother used to conceive Cady. Only when she learns how to separate her mothers power over her can protect her loved ones!

As Cady and Lon go in search of people who knew her mother back then, she learns more about how unstable and deadly her mother and father really were. Some of the secrets that Cady learns are both shocking and life changing, but I won't give away any spoilers!

With so much to lose and her love for Lon in the balance Cady understands that there isn't anything that she won't do to protect her new family! Begin the journey to help Cady find the clues she needs to eliminate the biggest threat to her future, her mother! Make sure you have a do not disturb sign and the day off.....this is one book you won't want to put down until the very last page has been turned!

2014 seems to be the year of series finales, and out of all of them, ARCADIA BELL has been the one that I’ve been dreading the most. Jenn Bennett is one of my top five go-to Urban Fantasy authors, and having to say goodbye to these beloved characters after only four books (and a novella) is heartbreaking. That point aside, BANISHING THE DARK is pure magic with its topsy-turvy plot, explosive chemistry and exceptional epilogue. And, the first ever chapters from Jupe’s POV are just… wow. I tried to savour this one—really, I did—but I was a goner after page one.

The showdown between Cady and her mother has been brewing since KINDLING THE MOON, and has finally reached its boiling point, but that’s not the only challenge Team Bell will have to face before they earn their HEA. Lon and Cady’s relationship gets put to the test in the most unlikely of ways which added an entertaining twist to their interactions throughout this book. I loved that the author made this installment all about “them”; although, I did find myself missing some of the secondary characters at times. The sexual tension actually surpassed the non-stop action in a few instances which helped ensure that this conclusion was pleasing on all fronts.

I adored Jupe’s role in this novel, and the couple of scenes from his POV made me desperately crave a novella from his viewpoint. I liked that he had just as big of a role to play in the Moonchild spell investigation as Cady and Lon did. His conversations with Priya were downright hilarious, and I loved that we got to witness his “first love”. His inclusion in the epilogue was a nice little bonus too. I never thought I’d count a teenage kid among my favourite characters, but Jupiter Butler is one of a kind!
