This review is from: Banjo Minnow 006 - 110 Piece Fishing System
I was a bit skeptical about this product from the get-go, seeing it on a number of infomercials and just assuming it was one of those "as seen on TV" products that are more gimmick than anything. I could not have been more wrong.
First off, the lures look amazing in the water. I mean, they look more like actual bait fish than some of the minnows I troll with. There are several different colors, sizes and patterns to the lures, and it is easy to find one that resembles the bait fish in your area. Fishing with the lures is a blast. You have a lot of control as to where the lure goes, and can fish in tight structure without worrying about snags very often due to the way you work the lure. It is not a cast and reel lure; you toss it, let it drop, then give it a little tug and let it drop and WHAM! you have a fish. It certainly took a little getting used to, because the strike happens when you let go of the tension on the line, so it is a little tough to feel the strike at first. The system comes with specialized hooks, anti-snag/weedless rubber bands for the hooks and eyelets that connect the lure to the hook. That right there is the only real con to this system, the eyes. You only get about 6 of them, so basically once you lose six lures, you have to go and purchase more eyes even though you have another 20 plastic fish. Without the eyes, the system is pretty much useless. Personally, I would suggest to the seller to include extra eyes with the purchase increasing the price accordingly. On my last trip to the BWCAW, I was the one providing dinner while the rest of the crew fumbled around with spoons, crankbaits, spinnners and poppers to no avail.

the truth,
This review is from: Banjo Minnow 006 - 110 Piece Fishing System
I purchased this fishing system over 10 years ago. The original Banjo Minnow. Now the true story. There's a small pond up the road from where I live. I tried one of my banjo minnows for the very first time. On my VERY FIRST CAST I caught a small northern pike. I was dumbfounded. It actually worked. Now the rest of the story... didn't catch another thing for the rest of the entire day. Go figure!

The Banjo Minnow "System" is a great addition to the freshwater tackle box. It looks pretty realistic, and comes with a wide variety of colors and sizes. I had seen the infomercials a couple years ago and have always wondered whether or not it was just another useless piece of crap or the real deal. Being that it was on an infomercial and that no professional angler that I'm aware of endorses it, I was a little skeptical. But I decided to buy it. I took it to the lake and at first I just practiced moving the bait in an authentic way that would look intriguing to the big fish. The only false advertising that I discovered was that its not that easy to make the bait move and dart realistically. I practiced for a good hour and a half, and it was on its way to looking like a real life minnow but not quite there. I'm sure if I dedicated more time then I could have got better swimming motions down. Through out the course of my practice I actually got a couple of bites. I was even able to land a large bluegill and a 11' smallmouth. I guess my practicing was good enough to lure some of them out. If your on the fence with this product, like I was for a couple of weeks, just make the investment and buy a tackle tray to put the kit in it. It is well worth it and it pays itself off in fun times on the water and many hook sets. I live in San Diego and had always been worried about freshwater fishing since I am more accustomed to ocean fishing but this kit certainly made me more confident in my efforts for lake fishing. Definitely one of the best lure purchases I have made in a long time. Its as necessary in your freshwater tackle box as Zoom Trick Worms are.
