GG Allin: Banned in Boston Vol. 1,
By A Customer
This review is from: Banned in Boston 1 (Audio CD)
Even if you don't agree with everything GG does and says, you have to admire the strength of his conviction and the quality of his music, especially this album, which is a classic...just a little note to other GG fans...if you can find this album on cassette, it also includes "Vol. 2", and "Live Fast Die Fast" EP, as well as some other interviews...songs that aren't included on the cassette are "1980's Rock and Roll" and "Up Against the Wall".

the king of rock!!,

Although i like gg's later songs this is still a good cd featuring songs such as beat, beat, beat, don't talk to me and you hate me and i hate you. It rocks in a humerous sort of way. Any gg fan will like this one.

This and "Always was" and you have the best GG.,

The Banned in Boston tracks in my eyes, should be re-released on the Jabbers album, and also they should replace the pitiful picture of GG with the early youthful GG on the album cover (of Always was...). If you like the first GG album, this is more of the same, as in, catchy, punchy, wild, classic punk rock! The best song on here is probably "Dead or Alive" which is somewhat ironic if you listen to the lyrics which sadly seem to foreshadow what was to come later.

Classic rock n' roll frontman,
This review is from: Banned in Boston 1 (Audio CD)
I've actually seen GG Allin live, unlike a lot of people who obsess over him. For better or worse, he embodied the rebellious abandon and dead-end self-destruction that real rock n' roll is all about. He really wasn't the sociopath he's been made out to be: he understood, way better than most rock frontmen, that real rock n' roll is controversial, spontaneous and dangerous.
Anyway, saying that, this record really captures that rock n' roll energy at its best, musically at least. Imagine the Stooges getting in a bar fight with the Dead Boys at a Mentors concert and you're still only halfway there. GG Allin had a unique energy all his own: Have you ever seen two guys beat each other up while a crowd circles around them and eggs them on? Musically, GG Allin had that same heart-racing excitement and all-out aggression in his music. You can say anything about GG Allin as a live performer, but you listen to this record and you can't deny that underneath it all, he really loved rock n' roll. Too bad most of the "rock" bands around nowadays don't feel the same.

GG at his golden stage,

This album contains some of GG's best music writing he's ever done. I always thought he was the best when he was with the Jabbers, and this CD has all of the Jabbers tunes you need. GG knows what he's doing when he wants to write a good song. It took me awhile to find this CD, but when you get it, it's all well worth it.
