If you are a long-time collector of banner books, you might already have this book in your stash. It is a reprint of "Banner Designs for Celebrating Christians," published in 1984.

They have added three different alphabets and a grid for enlarging in the back of the new book, but if you have the earlier book, I'd suggest not upgrading to the reprint. Same banner designs, although the front and back covers now offer color options for 11 of the 22 banners, which the original book does not have. With the availability of fonts on the Internet and the ability to automatically increase/decrease font sizes in word processing software, it is no longer necessary to purchase a book for the sole purpose of getting a "banner" alphabet.

However, if you don't have the original, this is a nice book to have to help spark your own creativity. Most designs are well-thought out; some are elementary, but usable for projects with young children. I like the fact that the meaning of the symbolism used in each banner is provided. That is helpful if you want to provide such information to a congregation.

I am not new to sewing, but I am just starting to make banners, and this book is great. I can see where it would also be a great book for anyone at any level who is looking for great patterns to copy onto different fabrics. The book contains black and white patterns, and suggests colors, but you could use any fabric that would work.

This is an excellent guide for making banners for the Church year. The illustrations and instructions are clear and easy to follow.
