More About the Author

John R. Maxim was born in Greenwich Village, NYC, educated at NY Jesuit Schools (Xavier and Fordham) played all the street sports and most team sports.
Comes from a family of cops and a few Feds. After school, took up flying, skydiving and dirt-track stock car racing until the Military decided it could do without him. Then went into marketing and advertising. Several awards. Rose to Senior VP at major New York Advertising agencies. Work involved a great deal of international travel. Major hobby back then was sailing.
Always wanted to write, however, and, one night on the bar car, decided to give it a year, succeed or fail. Sold first novel at age 41. Wrote 12 more plus one non-fiction, averaging a year and a half each. Translated into ten languages. Several were optioned for film or TV. Still waiting.
Took up skiing. Many trips to Switzerland and Colorado. With the kids gone, sold our Connecticut house and moved to Hilton Head Island with his beautiful wife, Christine, herself a champion sailor.

5.0 out of 5 stars To set the record straight..., December 23, 2001

John R. Maxim (Hilton Head Island, SC USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One reader claimed that the first 161 pages were a verbatim recap of the previous Bannerman book. That doesn't begin to be true. There is a recap, but almost none of it is verbatim because that action is seen from different, often sinister points of view by characters who made their first appearance in this book. The editor thought the recap was needed because this would be the first Bannerman book for many readers, and, because even the readers of the first one probably needed a reminder of who's who after waiting 18 months for this one to be published. The book was very favorably reviewed by people who had less trouble understanding that it's not so easy to do a sequal that balances the expectations of both old and new readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book (as well as the whole series) is a top-notch., April 7, 1998

This review is from: Bannerman Effect, The (Paperback)
I normally don't like spy stories. But all of the Bannerman novels (four in the series about Bannerman, one more that prequels Bannerman and is about Lesko) are the best! The characters are addicting, Maxim makes you want to become a covert-operative and go hang out with the Bannerman gang yourself. Find these books and read them!!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best set of books I have ever read., April 20, 1999
This review is from: Bannerman Effect, The (Paperback)
The Group of people in this book are killers and lunatics, by the forth or fifth chapter you are covinced that they are the good guys. It takes a good writer and an exellent plot to pull that off. Maxim bands together a bunch of social misfits in a close nit if sometimes uncomfortable freindship. These people would make great neighbors. Anyone who gave you a hard time would simply vanish. Lots of fun and lots of action.
