Returning this unit.

Using this method, I have my radio on all day long, day after day, with no problem and I only use my battery then when I am portable.
Karl T.
I would recommend this to Baofeng 5 owners without reservation.

I use this Baofeng battery eliminator with my Baofeng UV-5R radio; it simply replaces the battery that is attached to the radio. It drops the vehicles battery voltage down to about 8.4vdc, which the radio is happy with. I also use this battery eliminator here at home by plugging it into my 120vac to 13.8vdc bench power supply. Using this method, I have my radio on all day long, day after day, with no problem and I only use my battery then when I am portable. I highly recommend this item to all Baofeng UV-5R owners; I actually have purchased three of them for my other two radios.

This unit is an effective solution to the lack of an external power supply jack on the Baofeng UV-5R transceiver. The reason I only gave it three stars is: Why didn't the folks at Baofeng route the supply cord out of the side or back of the unit so you can stand the radio upright on it's bottom when using it?

If you want to use your radio in the car and not use the regular battery, this is what you want to get. The simple plugs that purport to plug directly into the charger base do not supply the required 10V that the base wants and therefore do not work. This guy works great. It's slightly annoying that the wire comes out the of the bottom of the battery case, but no big deal if you have a mount of some sort.

This unit powers the radio, but gets so hot that I thought it might melt. I will not be using it!
Looking at other reviews, i wonder if I have a defective unit.

Initially it worked great on my UV-5RA After a while I noticed a couple problems.
1. When the car is warming up, there is a crackling sound on reception of several channels that would fade away after about 20 min.
2. The worst of it all was that people on the air that would receive my transmission were telling me that my signal was completely unmodulated and later deteriorate to where I could not be understood at all. I would remedy this by putting on the battery, then keeping off for a few hours, then it would behave normally again. Putting on the battery right away seems to maintain the problem. So, turning it off with the battery attached for a couple hours seemed to bring it back to normal It seems to throw off the transmit frequency in duplex mode. As a result, I'm going to return the item as it is failing me big time.

The unit arrived in a sealed plastic bag, upon opening it and attempting to use it, it was found to be broken. The Cord that attaches to the Plug was not attached, due to poor quality manufacturing. I would like to purchase another one, but hesitate because of the poor quality of this item's assembly.

Does exactly what it should. No heating issues, reliable function of my BauFeng UV-5r radio. Getting solid reports from contacts on power and no noise interference. Made a 46 mile contact with an external antenna and this power source from a moving vehicle.

It appears to have been constructed using an original battery case so the fit of the adapter to the radio is excellent. It powers the radio very well eliminating the wear on the battery. With this power adapter, an external mag-mount antenna and a speaker-mic for the UV-5R, this makes a very nice temporary mobile installation.
