Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Sure to satisfy the appetites at the family dinner table or the church social, this kitchen essential includes a wide range of savory dishes. Baptists from around the nation have submitted their favorite recipes to the cookbook, which was compiled by the students, faculty, and alumni of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. This collection is an indispensable aid to pastors' wives and other churchgoers planning to prepare a heavenly feast. The cookbook contains more than five hundred recipes and offers sample menus for a variety of special occasions, such as church meetings, bridal luncheons, and Sunday brunches. Separate sections include How to Plan a Party, Special Touches, Helpful Hints, and Metric Equivalents. Artist Joy Rust beautifully illustrates Baptist Dishes Worth Blessing with sketches of Seminary architecture and scenes. A couple of sketches of the Seminary campus were drawn by Lew Eaton, a master of divinity graduate. Jo Ann Leavell teaches about the principles of family, time management, and her role in the ministry. During her marriage to the late Landrum P. Leavell II, Th.D., D.D., president of the Seminary, the couple frequently conducted family life conferences together. In addition to serving as the president of the Ministers' Wives of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1976, Leavell received the Mrs. J. M. Dawson Award for distinguished ministers' wives. She is still active in her community and local church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Leavell also authored Joy in the Journey and Don't Miss the Blessing, both published by Pelican. Joy Rust is a graduate of the John McCrady Art School, where she specialized in ceramics and tole painting. A former member of the New Orleans Art Association, Rust is the author and illustrator of Pelican's Old Homes of South Carolina. Dr. Rhonda Harrington Kelley is the professor of women's ministry and the director of women's ministry programs at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where her husband is professor of evangelism, as well as the president of the Seminary. They are both involved in Christian service through their organization Innovative Evangelism, which they formed in 1978. She is also the author of Pelican's Divine Discipline: How to Develop and Maintain Self-Control and Don't Miss the Blessing Study Guide. --This text refers to the Spiral-bound edition.
