Editorial Reviews

Deluxe reissue of the soundtrack to the award winning 1992 classic docudrama features an original score by renowned composer Michael Steams, who also remastered this edition. Unlike the previous editions of this soundtrack, this deluxe reissue features the full-length versions of many of the key tracks featured in the film. Ron Fricke directed Baraka, the epic non-verbal film that tells the story of the earth's evolution, man's diversity and interconnection, and his impact on the planet. The film takes the listener on a world tour of cultural (and natural) experience. Displaying the cyclical nature of life, Baraka moves through the mystery and fascination of natural phenomena to the serenity of Third World culture and, ultimately, the ferocity of industrialization.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as you remember it being in the movie. July 2, 2009
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
If you enjoyed the film Baraka and can't shake some of the images from your mind, this music will take you back to the film time and again with every listen. Really soothing and fun music to work to or to put your baby asleep to. (Just don't tell her about the chicken scene!) Better than I actually expected!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing January 10, 2010
Format:MP3 Music
I watched the movie Baraka on its opening day back in 1993 and, as soon as the movie ended, I rushed to the record store to purchase its soundtrack.

This is one of those soundtracks in which each composition is integrated with the visual images projected on the screen. The melodies composed by the great Michael Stearns help weave together the other tracks by Dead Can Dance, Incuyo, etc.

I purchased this particular MP3 release because the original CD that I purchased did not contain the original first track Opening/Nepal Morning, one of my favorite pieces of music, very soothing and ethereal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money!!! October 27, 2009

What a disappointment!
The only saving grace is the Bonus Track. The rest of the CD is boring.

I was hoping for the same sonic and composition quality as Michael Stearns "The Lost World".
Buy The Lost World! It is a sonic masterpiece...
