This release is OK.... just OK.,

This SHOULD have been a great CD but when I listened to it I was very disappointed to find that the incredibly beautiful opening flute theme (from the movie Baraka) is omitted as well as other great material from the movie (i.e. the jewish chanting/singing part). Also, some songs like the conga-based "African Journey" and "Rainbow Voice" are severely truncated versions from the movie.... which is a shame.

It's not even close to the soundtrak played on the movie , the reason I bought it . The music in the movie is 100 minutes and the CD only 48 . The editing is not worth it , sorry to say . But I did also get Michael Stearns Collected Thematic Works 77 - 87 , and it is a fine electronic album , up there with Michael Hoening and Klaus Schulze and Company . So , play the music of the movie in your DVD and forget about the CD ...

Absolutely love the music...,

...but disappointed by its brevity, including the editing of certain songs including the Intro and especially Track 6, which is hypnotic and ecstatic from the video (try it with headphones). This CD will give you a taste (or a tease) of the power of the film. Try recording the entire movie onto a cassette. As for the music (speaking of it from the film) it is absolutely marvelous. The meshing of music and imagery becomes emblazened into the mind's eye (and ears). Having seen the movie before owning the CD I can not say what would happen if you never saw the movie and merely listened to the CD alone but I can tell you that Dead Can Dance's Host of the Seraphim alone is a journey worth taking. Well, that and the David Hykes track. Now that I think about it, get it. Be carried away from the cares of this world for a while.

Not quite what I was expecting...,

I was expecting a true 'original' soundtrack album, since I had already ripped the audio off the DVD and made a CD out of it. And aside from the extended presentation of "Wipala", this soundtrack album isn't much better than the CD I made in private. In fact I prefer my bootleg to this legal release, mostly because #1: the tracks aren't in chronological order, so the album as a whole doesn't feel right to me, and #2: since all or most of the tracks on this album were pulled straight from the movie's audio tracks, I, everybody who bought this CD, and the companies that mastered and pressed them for mass distribution wasted their money. This product could have been a heck of a lot better. I mean, has Michael Stearns thrown away all of his masters or what?
I give it three stars because now with the complete "Wipala" track, I can reengineer a better bootleg.

This soundtrack is an enlightened work of art. It's a rare creation of music that has the ability to calm, sooth, uplift, and send tingles through the body and soul. My absolute favorite track is Mantra/Organics and I am so excited to read what reviewer bernieboy said...that the artist Stearne has other albums (and that they are even better?!...how is that possible?) I need more music like this in my life....it's hard to find.

both the movie and the soundtrack go beyond sight and sound. poetic and truthful. This soundtrack is perfect for meditation. A testimony that indeed it is not where you are but rather what is there. The worldly soundtrack will help you transcend the borders of where you are.

The soundtrack, much of which I am familiar with, is truly fantastic. The video itself is a true work of art. If you can watch this and experience it, it will make you run through all kinds of emotions, and make you think about all kinds of things. I think if everyone could see what I see in this video experience, the world would be a much friendy place... it's truly beautiful.

It's a tie between the Batman score and Baraka,

Before I purchased the Baraka CD, the Batman motion picture score was my favorite, now it's a tie between the two!!When I feel bad about the evils of humanity, I listen to the score to this lovely documentary showing humanity at its finest. Each track takes you to a different region of the world with ethnic music. My favorite tracks are Mantra/Organics and The Host of Seraphim also the Finale at the end of the film. Mundane words cannot truly describe how beautiful the music on this CD is. It takes you beyond the mundane, materialistic world to another realm of enchantment, wonder, mystery, and hope.....Earth! Worth the money :-)

Organic... natural... warm... ambient...,

There isn't much I can say about this soundtrack that most people reading this don't already know, otherwise why would you be here?Although a couple of cues from the film are not included, most of the beautiful, varied pieces are. My personal favourite, and sole reason for buying this CD is the piece Organics, featured in tracks 1 and 10. Stearns has created a fantastically warm and dreamy synth piece that comes as close to making you feel like you're floating as any music ever could. I recommend Baraka, both the CD and the film. Also check out some of Stearns' other CDs, some of them are even better.

If you have ever seen Baraka you will understand the primal appeal of this music. If you haven't seen Baraka I reccomend that you do. I thoroughly enjoy the calming and tranquil effect this music renders. It is in my opinion an example of how life flows and vibrates into a chorus of sound and stimulous to our senses. Not everyone will find the answers they seek, but given a chance this music will sooth the search.
