3.0 out of 5 stars Sort of grows on you May 23, 2013

I wasn't too wild about the first two books, mainly because I didn't (and still don't) like some of her women friends. I found them irritating to the point of not wanting to keep reading. However, I hate to spend money and then consider it wasted so I finally finished the set. I'm glad I did because the books did get better although they never made it to my "wow, this is good" list. The set has a good price and, if you keep reading, you'll probably enjoy them more as you go along. They aren't among the books I would happily re-read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Fun Mysteries August 9, 2013
By FredC
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once I got past the main character's whining over her husband, accusing him of cheating on her because she does not know all about his job (will not spoil the first book), while all she does is pine over every male she meets, I did enjoy the stories for their mysteries and humorous dialog.

5.0 out of 5 stars A laugh riot November 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I originally read Kiss Me, Tate and really enjoyed and it recommended this series at the end of it. It took me a couple of weeks to decide whether I was going to buy it, but it was the smartest move I made that week.

I unfortunately kept people awake from laughing so hard. Barbara Marr is a fantastic character and she sucks you right into her madcap adventures. I can't wait for the next book and neither will you once you've read these.

Karen Cantwell has gifted us with an offbeat new "detective" Barbara Marr is a stay at home mom who can't keep her nose out of other people's business and finds more than she is looking for in more ways than one. Fun, fast paced, great characters and plots. Well worth the read. Waiting for next one!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
This series was entertaining but not engrossing. No one gets into that many dangerous situations. Too much of her dream sequences and putting herself in danger unnecessarily. Read more

More About the Author

Welcome!

I'm so glad and honored that you have visited my author page.

I have been writing plays and short stories for many years, some of which are published in short story collections.

My first novel, TAKE THE MONKEYS AND RUN, is a comedy-mystery, inspired, to some degree by a true monkey sighting in my own neighborhood. Because I love to laugh as well as make other people laugh, I have great fun writing the characters Barbara Marr, her friends and her adversaries. When I set out to write this book, I knew I wanted to write something that readers would say, "Now that was FUN." I HOPE I have achieved that goal. And if I did, please feel free to drop me a line at and let me know! I love to hear from readers. (especially if they LIKE the book!)

Books in the Barbara Marr series are: TAKE THE MONKEYS AND RUN (#1), CITIZEN INSANE (#2), AND SILENCED BY THE YAMS (#3), and SATURDAY NIGHT CLEAVER (#4). The fifth book, DEAD MAN STALKING, will be released September of 2014. You can also enjoy a Barbara Marr short story collection, THE CHRONICLES OF MARR-NIA, as well two holiday short stories, IT'S A DUNDER-BULL WIFE and BJORN!ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. All are available on Amazon for Kindle.

Again, thank you for stopping by!
