Barbara Morrison has performed with a virtual "who's who" of the Jazz and the Blues worlds including legends, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Ron Carter, Etta James, Esther Phillips, David T. Walker, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Otis, Dr. John, Kenny Burrell, Terence Blanchard, Joe Sample, Cedar Walton, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, and Keb' Mo (Kevin Moore).
She has been featured on over 20 recordings in almost every genre from traditional Jazz and Blues to Gospel and Pop. Her melodic voice, with its two-and-a-half-octave range, are known worldwide, as are her rich, unique, soulful and highly spirited interpretations of both, familiar Jazz and Blues classics, and original contemporary tunes. Most striking is Ms. Morrison's ability to belt out down-home, soul-stirring Blues. Breathtaking are her impassioned renditions of old and favorite torch songs.The ‘All Star Swing Band’ features Ruth Davies (bass), Danny Caron (guitar), John Haynes (drums), Charles McNeal (tenor saxophone), John R. Burr (keyboard), and Steve Campos (trumpet). Individually, these musicians have played and recorded with artists ranging from John Lee Hooker and Charles Brown to McCoy Tyner. This group of top Bay Area talent came together on May 30, 2002, to back Barbara Morrison for this performance and recording.

Buy this CD. The live show was fantastic and the CD captures the feeling of being there very well.

All Swing, No Filler,

To be honest, there's no single track on this CD that numbers among my favorites, and I rarely listen to it outside of DJing swing dances. But there's a reason every swing DJ I know owns this recording: it's solid dance music from beginning to end! If you've seen Morrison perform, you already know why she's a favorite of lindy hoppers; if not, buy this CD and find out.
If you can't get enough Barbara Morrison, I also recommend Live at the Dakota (for listening, but not as much for dancing).

ms. morrison's talent and effort are on full display here. her selection of music is outstanding. the musicians working with her are excellent. the pacing of the show is exact. this cd is fun and jaw-dropping. it's live music at its best. i wish this cd went on and on.....
