From Library Journal
More expose than biography, this is a devastatingly acute look at the behind- the-scenes in-fighting and back-stab bing that sometimes go into creating art. Considine, a record publicist and entertainment reporter, traces Strei sand's career alongside the growth of Columbia Records, for which the singer has amassed $125 million in profit over the past two decades. Streisand, who was not interviewed, comes off as a tactless, often arrogant, genius. The book is almost exclusively focused on Streisand's music, but fans will be amused and horrified by explicit de scriptions of romantic interludes with Warren Beatty and Jon Peters. No one will emerge unscathednot Streisand, Columbia Records, nor the authorin what may be the most controversial star bio of the fall. Christopher Sche mering, Arlington Cty. P.L., Va.
