Sources used by Oppenheimer, coauthor with Jack Vitek of Idol: Rock Hudson; The True Story of an American Film Hero ( LJ 9/1/86), include press clips and interviews with a myriad of Walters's acquaintances, but not with Walters herself. The result is an uneven lashing of the first lady of televison. Discussion of Walters's career in the 1970s is interesting and revealing, but there is little on her later career. Smarmy references to her nightclub owner father's business dealings and Walters's relationship with Roy Cohn pepper the book, although little is truly substantiated. There is no exploration of Walters's questionable journalistic ethics, the effect her success has had on women in journalism, or what her role as a courier in the Iran-Contra affair means to the industry. Wait for the authorized version, or another version.

When I bought the book last year(during my semester vacation) I actually didn't read it straight away. I just read the book when my new semester begin(I've got nothing to do since it's the beginning of the semester)it's just simply amazing,once I read I cannot put it down.It's a story about a world famous , I can say a journalist,who are very determined to get everythings that she did became a perfect one. Considering the environment, the way she grows,how she face the problems of her personal life and the way she solve the problem,I would say for those who wants to be a succes must follow. The way the story goes is very smooth.I plan to read another book by the same writer , I think the writer,author,is very professional when it comes to deal with autobiography. that's all. thank you.

Someone once said: If you want to know the true worth of a man (or woman,) never ask the best friend or the worst enemy. I thought this was a good unbiased view of Barbara Walters life. She truly is a world super star. She ranks right up there with Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Onassis. It was a swift read. But then, I'm a Walters fan. I'd probably enjoy anything written about her.
