Product Description

Flavor: Whole Wheat

In 1971, when Barbara started our company, the Bay Area was buzzing with young people full of a desire to express their love for all people. The world was changing daily as they created their own paths and sought to turn others onto new directions. Barbara, then 17, found her calling in real food and opened a small natural bakery in Northern California. She had a simple plan—make wholesome food taste incredibly delicious. Inspired by good health, family, and the kitchen table as the cornerstones of the good life, she used whole grains and oats just as nature intended—keeping things simple and real. The bakery exceeded her wildest dreams and grew from a storefront start-up to a thriving wholesale business. Since those first loaves more than 40 years ago, our product offerings have grown to include cereals, snack bars, cookies, and cheese puffs. We carry on Barbara’s commitment to create simple, wholesome, and delicious products with the most honest ingredients.

This Barbara's Bakery fig bar has obviously undergone unfortunate quality changes from the prior version. The cookie dough has gone from a darker moist wheat texture to a lighter coloured, much drier kind of dough. The fig paste interior remains flavourful, but there is less of it and it is not as moist as the original version. It is my understanding that the company ownership has changed (Weetabix acquisition) & that there is new production equipment at the company's facility in Clinton, Mass. The business practice today seems to be to give you less and charge you more for the same. I intend to continue to purchase this product until I find something better..

Barbara's fig bars used to be the best around, especially the blueberry (no longer available), but as some others have pointed out in their reviews, something has changed at Barbara's and they're no longer making the same fig bar. It's breadier now, less moist, less all round enjoyable. The multigrain are still decent, but just not what I'd come to expect over the years. Who knows why manufacturers change their products, but when the change doesn't lead to improvement, it makes you scratch your head. I've switched brands (Nature's Bakery) because they're closer to what Barbara's used to be.

These fig bars are naturally sweet and so tastey. My whole family just loves them and they are a healthy, nutritious snack which is great, too. These are a very moist cookie with a great blueberry taste, by far our favorite of the Barbara's Fig bars although we really like the Raspberry ones too.

I was having 2 or 3 cookies everyday for the longest time. They were pretty good tasting and a healthy alternative to other cookies. Something has changed recently. They're not the same. The recipe has changed or the baking process or both. I'm pissed.

These are tasty, but a little sweet for me; I couldn't eat more than 2 of these at a time, even if I wanted to. (Wait - maybe that's a GOOD thing!!) I purchased these, along with the blueberry flavor, and the blueberry bars are the better choice in my opinion. Overall, a good option if you're looking to satisfy a sweet craving in a healthy way.

I am a very health concious mom and these are one of the few "cookies" that I allow my toddler to eat on a regular basis. I can feel good that there is nutritional value in what my VERY picky 3 yr. old begs for. You have to try them to believe that healthy can and is good when it is made by Barbara's Bakery!

I'm absolutely addicted to this product. I first purchased a package of them at Whole Foods Market, where they're sold for $4.99/package. Since we don't make trips to Whole Foods on a very regular basis, I knew I'd either have to buy them in bulk from there (which would be outrageously expensive) or try to find them elsewhere, so I looked on Amazon. It was an excellent deal with both Subscribe & Save and our Amazon Prime Student membership. When I received the box of six packages, however, I noticed that the first had slightly broken/crumbled fig bars in it... and then the second and third and fourth. So basically, it just looks like someone or some people handled the box very poorly. I will purchase this again though, and hopefully all of my fig bars will be perfectly intact next time!

Funny how this product seems so polarizing. I dislike Fig Newtons but love these bars' true-fruit sweetness and gooey density. Some bars do stick together. The filling is by no means hard to chew or gigantic, though, as some reviewers have oddly implied. If freshness was ever a problem, it may have been corrected: the shipment I got was several months before the expiration date.

My only qualm: though naturally sweetened, each piece contains 8g sugar. The serving size of 2 bars is more filling than you'd expect, but if eaten as a quick breakfast or even lasting snack you'd need at least 4 -- for 32g sugar. "Natural" or not that's too much sugar.
