4.0 out of 5 stars Brian Wayne Wells, Esquire, reviews "Barbarossa", May 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Barbarossa: invasion of Russia, 1941 (Ballantine's illustrated history of the violent century. Campaign book no. 11) (Paperback)
The German invasion of the Soviet Union was the big turning point of the Second World War. Yet it is often overlooked by western students of that War. John Keegan's book, "Barbarossa," attempts to correct the bias that many WWII students have toward knowlege of the western front in Europe and ignorance of the eastern front.

"Barbarossa" is part of the series of books published between 1968 and 1975 called the Ballantine Illustrated History of the Second World War (later called the Illustrated History of the Violent Century). The series of short paperback books with pictures, drawings and maps on nearly every page proved to be a popular seller. Books of the series were even placed on grocery store magazine racks where they were sold in great numbers.

John Keegan was the author of a number of books in this series. "Barbarossa", bearing the name the Germans applied to their plan to invade the Soviet Union in 1941, contains Keegan's usual stamp of an intelligent and easy to read and well organized book.

This review is from: Barbarossa: invasion of Russia, 1941 (Ballantine's illustrated history of the violent century. Campaign book no. 11) (Paperback)
I read this short short and full of illustrations book. All photos and maps are black & white. Some chapters, about this beginning of the biggets land battle in World's history:The Nazist-Soviet War(1941-1945).For me, I read this book for first time, when I was a child and I found it almost excellent.Well, today I'm an adult and 38 years old. This book is good to begin, about Barbarossa, but for me today, I would referto read a book with more details, about this very important subject.
