Now I know this is on amazon.com, so I'll assume that you're from the U.S. Now, the ska/punk scene here in the UK is bigger than ever, and this would be a pretty good CD to introduce you to the UK flavour. (Other popular English ska/punk bands are on Moon Ska Europe, Golf and 20 Deck records). Uncle Brian are from my home town of Salisbury, and don't contain all of the original members of the band that made this CD (Two left to form another band, called Whitmore, who have a great CD out called Smoke The Roach and it's worth checking out!).So anyway... this CD contains a very upbeat and good times vibe, perfect for playing at errr... Barbeques. 'Brothel Creepers' kicks off to a synthy techno kinda beat but soon blends into a nice little riff you get you going. The first thing you may notice is the not-so-great production, quality of the sound etc, but after a few listens it sounds perfect and just adds to that raw feeling. Throughout the album, there are plenty of ska riffs and breakdowns so strap up your dancing shoes and get those feet moving. 'Kelly' is a great little song which blends in to the even better 'Dingle' with some great bass work from Glenn, and this is probably the best lyrical track on the album. If emo/hardcore poetic lyrics are your thing though, Uncle Brian may not be the band for you, but if you like some feel good summer music... or err.. yeah, 'BBQ Music' (you get the picture) then you won't particularly care. The lyrics are usually humourous and the song subjects range from being a Superhero ('Super Powered') to the bell-laden 'Bed Hair', about.. yeah Einstein, you guessed it, a bad hair day, to girls, etc. John's drumming is awesome throughout, really, it is good. A cover of the Venga Boys' 'Going To Ibiza' made the CD, it started off as a joke at live shows but fans seemed to dig it and so they decided to put it on the CD. Other highlights include 'Better Off Gay', '53' and 'Shooting Through'. Basically if you wanna hear something from 'accross the pond' and wonder what's happening over here then check out the CD, and check out some other UK ska/punk bands on Moon Ska.
