Next to a Thursday night performance at Vaughn's and eating red beans and rice in between Kermit's sets, this is the next best thing. The album really captures the flavor of a live show, and the subtlety of this group -- as a prior reviewer said, from the traditional, St. James Infirmary to the more funky, the sound of this band is pure NO. Great listening any time of day, any mood. Only down side is the New Orleans song, which I thought fell a little flat, but still 5 starts

The best way to hear most New Orleans bands is live. Kermit and the Swingers have captured the feel of one of their best live sets. Kermit likes to talk to the folks between songs, and the "Interludes" achieve that ambience. "What is New Orleans?" artfully but accurately sums up what it means to live in and love this place while still maintaining a beat. "Do the Fat Tuesday" gets everyone out onto the dance floor. "St. James Infirmary" is effortlessly performed with the spirit of the great masters. Keep in mind that the Swingers' trombonist, Corey Henry, looks all of about 18 years old, an idea that doesn't come across as you listen to the maturity of his work. This is a disc definitely worth buying, especially if you can't come down here and listen to the maestro live.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Kermit & the BBQ Swingers live more than once, & I think that this CD really does a good job of capturing their sound. Also, as a frequent visitor to NOLA, this disc evokes the whole feeling of the city every time I put it on. Do yourself a favor, and pick up a copy of this CD. Better yet, take a trip to New Orleans and check Kermit out live @ Vaughn's!!

I bought this CD at the record release party in New Orleans, and it was worth the trip from Philadelphia! This is the first album that Kermit recorded with the BBQ Swingers (his regular band in NO)and I hope there are more to come. From the traditional jazz standard "St. James Infirmary" to the funky hiphop inspired "Peep this groove out" Kermit explores all of the aspects of New Orleans music.

If you can't be in New Orleans to hear him live, this is the next best thing. Capturing the heart and soul of the New Orleans music scene are songs "Smokin' With Some Barbecue" and "Do Watch Wanna (The Final Chapter).
