The item was delivered quickly, performed as anticipated and is something that I continually head for when I cook steaks, burgers, bacon and for that matter any flat meat. If you take the time to pre-heat the weight it will assist in cooking the item as well as keeping your food pressed on the cooking surface ensuring uniform contact with the hot surface. Cleanup is breeze and I am confident that this item will hold up for years to come as long as I do not try something foolish like bouncing them on cement floor or make an extreme temperature change.

Please NOTE this item is not recommended for hitting your better half or spouse to get their attention. They are heavy and might leave permanent marks .... bad attempt at humor.

Honestly, I could not be happier with this purchase and would give it ten stars if that were permitted.

If you want your bacon flat.

If you like BLT's with flat bacon, get a set of these. I haven't yet tried them on my burgers... That will come this weekend.

I have a big flat iron griddle and I purchased a set about 2 weeks ago to try on it. They worked well enough that I had to order another set today.

They are cast iron, so if you do wash them, immediately dry them or else you will have rust spots on them quickly (like I did on the first set... sat them in the dish drainer and forgot about them for an hour).

Overall, I liked these enough to recommend them to anyone who is even thinking about a set. Cheap enough (even with S&H) to make them a bargain, and a must have to any short order cook in training.

Just what i had in mind. Wanted a BBQ weight, I liked the size, and the wood handle. the bottom of these have a small cross hatch pattern, that runs square to the weight. I cleaned, and then seasoned them with two coats of vegetable oil, then put them on the BBQ at just indirect heat, at the lowest setting. Then waited about a half an hour. Then cooked some pork chops with them. GREAT!! did the job perfect, will however need to adjust my cooking times, as these speed things up a little (duh!) but the presentation was spot on, nice deep grill marks, no noticeable marks from the weights at all.

The only reason they are not 5 stars, is the wood handle gets very hot, i know, i know, its sitting in a freaking BBQ!!! but i had looked for a model that would have a "removable" handle, sorta like a grate lifter, but no such luck. These will serve me very well, and would recommend these. i just use my tongs to lift them off the food when flipping.

I will be doing stuffed burgers tonight, and look forward to trying these baby's out

the other reasons i ultimately purchased this one, was:
1) weight was clearly stated
2) dimensions were clear (and rectangle)

I bought two of these for my grill. I let them heat up with the grill then place them on top of everything I do. The transfer of heat to the non-flame side really cooks the food more evenly and faster. I even lay these on my asparagus. Some people get these as a bacon press, but if you bake the bacon at 350 it never wrinkles. I wouldn't leave these outside though, being cast iron they WILL rust.

I bought this with a cast iron griddle for the stove. I used to work the grill in a restaurant and always found these handy to help cook a grilled cheese or some bacon strips. This thing is built like a tank, which it should be. It would probably survive in a restaurant for many years. In my kitchen it should last a lifetime. Don't stick it in the dishwasher or you'll wreck the wood finish. Hand wash it and dry it and it'll last forever.

For years I have considered using a weight for things like bacon, burgers, steak, and other types of foods which could use a little bit of pressure during cooking. Recently, I have unlocked the glory of using cast iron skillets. This weight works perfectly when used in conjunction with my cast iron skillet.

Most frequently I use this for burgers and steaks in the cast iron skillet. I grind my own burger meat (50% Chuck/ 25% Sirloin/ 25 % Flat Iron), and form 6 oz patties. Three of them fit in my skillet, and this weight covers 60% of all three simultaneously. It keeps the whole side of the burger pressed firmly into the searing hot pan, creating a beautiful, caramelized crust on the outside of my burgers. This sear can only be attained with a weight, because without it, usually the middle of the burger will raise-up and lose contact with the pan during cooking -- even when I 'put the dimple' in the middle of it.

Steaks: Again, this helps my steaks maintain 100% contact with the bottom of the hot iron. This enables me to fire a ribeye to perfection -- every time.

Bacon: I also use it for bacon to prevent it from curling on the ends, and getting a consistent texture and done-ness.

So far, those are the only functions I have used this for, but it has performed flawlessly.

A couple of warnings / notes about the functionality / explanation why I deducted one star.

The weight gets EXTREMELY hot (as I am sure you understand). If you look at the design, the wooden handle is held to the weight by two iron pieces -- one on either side (where the screw goes in). Those metal pieces also get EXTREMELY hot. Make sure you grab the middle of the wooden handle. I have accidentally let the edge of my hand touch it, and it wasn't pleasant.
