5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mix of Great songs by Great Quartets
If you're new to the barbershop style of a cappella singing, this is the perfect way to be introduced. This compilation has wide variety of songs performed by some of the best groups in the Barbershop Society's 60+ year history. It demonstrates how much amazing music can be created by four people without the aid of a single instrument. It's a must have for any fan of a...

3.0 out of 5 stars It has its uses
If you're new to Barbershop, this is a decent intro. You get some good tunes by some good groups, including the gals (a few Sweet Adeline groups).

If you're already into Barbershop, you'll probably be disappointed. The mix is too eclectic; there are too many so-so cuts; and on top of it, the production of the CD is suspect (a couple of the tracks are so close together...

If you're already into Barbershop, you'll probably be disappointed. The mix is too eclectic; there are too many so-so cuts; and on top of it, the production of the CD is suspect (a couple of the tracks are so close together you barely have time to breath).

A well-chosen half-dozen CDs, each done by a different group, would be a better way to start a Barbershop collection. Too bad Amazon doesn't carry much of this stuff....<P

I am a barbershopper, and I know several of the performers on this CD, and I just can't get enough of it! These artists are true masters of barbershop style. They are what I aspire to be! No one yet that I have played this for has not gotten shivers when Ambiance sings the "Rhapsody of New York". Even my five year old daughter (also an aspiring barbershopper) said "Wow, Mommy!" This also a great CD for those not familiar with female barbershoppers (Sweet Adelines). Check out "Jeepers Creepers" by Rumors for a song you'll be singing for days! I have gotten copies for nearly all my family and friends, and you will want to do the same!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful example of this art form., December 3, 2010

If you are a fan of barbershop, with its extended, mobile chords, this CD will not fail to deliver. In addition to the standard male voices, it includes mixed and women-only groups. Ordinarily I am a traditionalist and not drawn to women singing this style as they lack that wonderful male bass sound. The track of Rhapsody In Blue, however, is breathtaking! Even the numbers that aren't my favorites aren't a disappointment. The variety of groups keeps it interesting and its a balanced collection including selections not typically sung in this genre. All in all I'm more than pleased and listen to it often.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ranges from excellent to so-so, December 1, 2007
This review is from: Barbershop's Best! The New Generation of a Great American Tradition (Audio CD)
Most of the cd is good, not great but good. There are some excellent songs such as "This is the moment" "Ein Klein not Musick" and "The Jungle Book". Some songs such as "When October Goes" just do not work. This one was very disapointing because it is such a well written song. I would recommend this cd because most of the songs sound very professional. If you are a big barbershop fan as I am, You will enjoy most of what you hear here. Some songs are a bit weak, but it is still worth purchasing.

Music has nice variety of conventional barbershop and entertaining acapella music, mixed male and female groups. Overall a good buy and I'm pleased with the purchase.
