The Story of Barbie
Inspired by her daughter's fascination with cutout paper dolls, Ruth Handler suggests making a three-dimensional doll through which little girls could play out their dreams. She names the doll "Barbie," after her own daughter Barbara's nickname. Barbie soon leads Mattel to the forefront of the toy industry and fascinates generations of young girls.

A Bike A Princess Can Love - a review of the Barbie 16 inch bike,
This review is from: Barbie Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
We purchased this bike for our 6 year old daughter about two or three months ago. So far mom and dad have been happy with it. Our daughter ecstatic since it is sooooo pink.
Putting it together took two wrenches. It was fairly quick and certainly easy or so says my hubby. The bike has hand brakes (not good for beginners in my opinion) and foot pedal brakes. The feature that I particularly like is the easy-to-adjust seat position. This has allowed us to entertain our princess' 4 year old brother without a lot of hassle. If he wants to pretend to ride we can make the adjustment in a flash. Five Stars. Sturdy so far. Enough pink for any girl no matter how princess-y.

Nice bike, terrible training wheels,
This review is from: Barbie Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
The bike itself is nice. I did have the same issue as mentioned elsewhere that the first one I bought had a bent fork for the front wheel where both sides of the fork were bent inward and I couldn't fit the front tire on. This appeared to be the result of manufacturing error rather than some sort of damage during shipment.
My main criticism of the bike is that the training wheels bend too easily where they attach to the bike and are a safety hazard. My daughter fell several times in just the first few times she rode the bike as the training wheels kept bending outward while she was riding it. I made repeated adjustments and kept hammering the training wheel attachment, but the wheels continued to bend even after only 5 minutes of riding. I bought some training wheels from a local bike shop and have not had a problem since (over a month ago). The training wheels I bought from the shop have noticeably thicker attachments so I guess it was just a matter of the manufacturer of the Barbie bike not wanting to spend money on training wheels with adequate support. The bike itself is nice and a good bargain, but be aware that you will probably have to buy some additional training wheels.

Build Issue-bent front fork and bad bearings upon arrival,
By
This review is from: Barbie Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
We recieved this bike as a gift, it is really cute and pink is a big hit. However, the front fork and brake assembly were both bent upon arrival and the bearings sounded like gravel when turning the wheels. We decided to take it to a local bike shop to get fixed rather than hassle with shipping and returns. The bike shop said it looked like it was manufactured 'bent' since there was no cosmetic damage. There was no way the front tire would go on. It may turn out to be a good bike, we'll see after we get it back. Hopefully others will not receive defective goods.
