3.0 out of 5 stars I KNOW THAT THE DOLL WILL VARY A BIT,BUT NOT LIKE THIS!
Every year, the city of Rio de Janeiro erupts in a frenzy of music, dance, sequins, and feathers while the Cariocas (local inhabitants) and countless visitors celebrate carnaval! In tribute to Rio de Janeiro's joyous, week-long celebration, Barbie doll wears an incredible Brazilian costume featuring a bright purple outfit with a striking, midriff baring halter top and a...

First of all I would like to say that I am about to give ya'll fact not opinion. I was offened by the fact that people are forgeting that this doll is about a culture much differant from American culture. This is about foreign people celebrating the pride they have in African ancestory and being of both African and Brazilian descent I know this well. This doll Is a beautiful representation of her people.
More conservative people I don't recomend this for you and/or your child(this is about a culture not an image).
This is a great peice of merchandice to and diversity to a collection or to start a collection. For me, my collection is having dolls that represent the cuture of my anscetors so having a doll like this would be like finding a ruby out thousands of diamonds and saphires.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Keep It Real People!, August 4, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Barbie Collector Dolls Of The World Carnaval Barbie Doll (Toy)
As a collector of action figures, this doll gets my highest rating. As the title of this particular series states "Dolls of the World", the Carnival Barbie Doll does more than just entertain little girls, it teaches us all about racial and ethnic diversity (the greatest strength in American society today) as well as some aspects of South American culture. Anyone (adults and children alike) who cannot appreciate the fact that this collector's doll is "different" from any other Barbie doll in several, very good ways is probably racially or ethnically challenged.
Aesthetically, this doll is a beautiful collector's piece that would make an excellent addition to any Barbie collection. One more thing worth mentioning is that the eye lashes are rooted in, just like the hair. They are not painted on. This is a clear testament of the doll's collector quality. The costume is identical to those worn during Brazillian carnivals which is part of the doll's motif and meaning. I fail to see how this costume differs from that of a Barbie doll wearing a bikini. No one seems to be offended by that.
I highly recommend this doll to any collector who appreciates a fine work of art that embodies ethnic diversity. Any kids or adults who feel that the Carnival Barbie is too "risqué" should refrain from purchasing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars reminds me of home, December 15, 2006
This review is from: Barbie Collector Dolls Of The World Carnaval Barbie Doll (Toy)
This doll reminds me of home - Trinidad and Tobago. On the left side of her face she has a tatoo (if I can call it that) of Trinidad. She looks everything like Carnival - our biggest event of the year. In case you don't know of Trinidad and Tobago, carnival and steelpan is our thing. Our country comprises people of all ethnicities and races. Most of us, like myself, they call 'callaloo' because we are mixed with everything from Spanish and African to Indian and Chinese. You would have a blast if you visit Trinidad and Tobago and when you do, this doll will become more than just a collector's item...it will become part of a beautiful memory. So just because she looks like a 'TRINI' I give her a SUPER BIG 5

I saw this doll on the shelves at Toys R Us one day and came back at the end of the week to buy it.
She is so cute! I collect Barbie dolls, and never take them out of their box, so I can't really tell you how she feels, or if you can remove the clothes or shoes.
She is very beautiful with crimped hair, sparkly clothes, and feathers.
I highly recommend. I'm sure little girls would love to play with her, I know I would if I was around the ages of 4-10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired Me to Start My Daughter's Collection, December 29, 2006
This review is from: Barbie Collector Dolls Of The World Carnaval Barbie Doll (Toy)
This doll is beautiful. That's just as real as it gets. I've seen Barbie Collectibles before, but they've generally turned me off because they appeared to be all basically the same doll in a different dress, albeit wonderful dresses. I love this doll because it celebrates that diversity of culture.
I saw this doll, then the Diwali Doll, which is equally beautiful, I bought them both and now I am hooked. I bought some books and I am seeking out some of the more traditional dolls as well; I've purchased 3 more dolls since. None of that would have happened without this beautiful and meaningful doll. It really spoke to me.
My little lady is part Brasileiro. I spent so much time looking for a doll that reflects her diversity, but that's hard to find in a baby doll.
This doll is her heritage. The samba costume is beautiful and exotic, not risque. To say such a thing is turned one's nose up at a tradition that people are proud to celebrate. We should continue to embrace the dimensions added to our lives by learning and accepting the diversity of the world's people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barbie Carnaval Dolls Of The World, January 6, 2009

We originally purchased this doll because my elementary school age child was doing a research project on Brazil.
The Dolls of The World Series by Mattel has really done an exceptional job in producing such authentic replicas of the natives in their clothes and skin tones. The Brazillian doll is so much better once you get her. Her costume is lovely with vibrant colors and the details were accurate. Her complextion and hair texture is truly that of a Brazillian Beauty.
We actually made a float to reflect the carnivals of Rio and placed this beautiful doll on it. Needless to say, my child got an A. Thank you for a great product!! - S.L. Richmond, Virginia

SideBar: As always another great product and lighting fast delivery from Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most beautiful Barbie I have ever seen, January 1, 2010

This doll is simply gorgeous! This is the prettiest, best-designed Barbie doll I have ever seen. Everything about her is just beautiful - she has a beautiful charming face with very pretty features and a sweet smile, and she is the only Barbie doll I've ever seen (other than All That Jazz Barbie) that has real, glued on eyelashes rather than painted on ones. She has thick curly dark brown hair with subtle, barely visible auburn highlits...also, the most beautiful hair I've ever seen on a Barbie doll. Her costume, shoes and headpiece with feathers are simply stunning and extremely well designed - beautiful bright colors, the prettiest shades od purple and pink (fuchsia), metallic accents, embroidery, lots of sequins, glitter...a truly festive, beautiful Carnaval costume, and I love that her face makeup (especially her lipstick) and her body makeup match the costume perfectly. I also love that she's not quite as skinny as other Barbie dolls, she has curves. Gorgeous, gorgeous doll! My favorite doll in my entire Barbie collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rant and review, November 8, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Barbie Collector Dolls Of The World Carnaval Barbie Doll (Toy)
First off I'm a bit offended by a couple of comments. Maybe in the future some of you should do your research and educate yourself about customs of other countries before comparing a particular culture to another ~ especially that of a "Las Vegas Showgirl" or a "circus performer".

Maybe that's what the doll looks like to some but you're obviously not looking at this doll from an educational standpoint. We all differ no matter what part of the world we are from and we all have unique customs. This doll would be a great tool for showing children how many Brasilians look as far as features are concerned. But then an explaination of her costume along with what the outfit is used for would be appropriate. You could then compare her to other dolls from other parts of the world!

Carnival is a very important time in Brasil ~ a fun (yes, sometime risque) clebration. This costume reflects the traditional costume donned by those in the parades and personally I think Mattel did a superior job on her!

The outfit is exquisit; she really does have a head full of thick curly hair, and as another reviewer mentioned she has actual eyelashes rather than painted lashes.

Her clothes may not be removable and the shoes may not stay on as some have complained about but remember that this IS a collectors doll.

Oh yeah, for those "offended" by this doll ~ there's much worse on TV, on the internet, and at school for your kids to see.

THIS DOLL IS A GREAT COLLECTABLE. IF YOU COLLECT BARBIE'S, HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT THE CARNAVAL BARBIE? THE COSTUME AND MAKEUP IS TERRIFIC. I COLLECT ALL ETHNIC BARBIES AND THIS IS A SURE WINNER.
