I agree with all of the previous reviews. This doll looks nothing at all like the doll photo used for pre-order purposes. This was a photograph of a doll, not a drawing, so there is absolutely no reason for the doll NOT to look like what they pre-sold. Most of the differences could probably be overlooked, but the jacked up Barbie hair they put on this doll looks nothing like the shaggy hair on the doll in the pre-order photo.
If you search for Joan Jett Barbie on entertainmentearth.com you will see that they updated their site with a photo of the actual doll. Since they deal in collectibles, I assume they understand that what may seem like a small difference to some people, will be a world of difference to a collector. It was a huge disappointment!

I am writing this to warn anyone about to buy this doll because I just got mine yesterday and was almost in tears when I saw it. I was so looking forward to this doll as it was backordered on the Barbie website but I actually got it early only to find out that the actual doll looks NOTHING like the one you are being sold. The whole selling point for me was that the doll looked just like Joan Jett right down to her shaggy black hair. The one I received has a long black bob, pink lipstick and for those of you who know about Barbies, the doll is actually the new high fashion model Barbie with the exotic features and lanky legs and arms with Joan Jett clothes and a white guitar. It is so horrible and now my poor boyfriend feels bad because it was supposed to be one of my Christmas presents but he noticed that it does not look like the doll he ordered for me so he showed it to me and I agreed that it looks nothing like the one being advertised. I am selling the doll tomorrow.

I have to echo the other 2 reviews. I received my doll last week and it looks NOTHING like the doll advertised. The hair is much longer, and the face is completely different. I, too, am confused as to why they would show the doll as looking like Joan Jett when the actual product is so different.

I bought this doll because I like the dark hair/pale skin combo, and it will be great with my Hard Rock Cafe and Harley Barbies. I'm happy with the one that I got, but I can sure understand why some other collectors aren't. I think she looks like Joan Jett, but she doesn't look like the promo picture, and that's a problem.
This is a doll you're going to have to cherry-pick if you want one with decent hair for in-box display. I suspect they leave the factory looking OK, even great, but they get tossed around in shipping. This hair is too short to secure it in place to the packaging, so a lot of them get to their destinations looking like refugees from Fraggle Rock. Short Barbie hair like this usually has some stiff styling product to keep it in place; I don't know why they skipped it in this case. It's synthetic hair, sensitive to heat and being left in the same position for long periods of time. So even if you take it out of the box, you'll have some difficulty making the hair look right, because it has "memory." It's longer than Joan's shaggy do, as well as fluffier. (The Debbie Harry doll doesn't seem to have fared much better.) The facial screening is different as well, with pink lips instead of the red in the promo picture. With this one, your mileage WILL vary. Between cleaning up images in Photoshop and unexplained changes halfway around the world, it's no wonder dolls end up like this. My doll is good, but it's anyone's guess what you'll get when you order. I'm enjoying mine, but I can't recommend it to anyone else.

When I saw the other reviews, I was really disappointed. Then the doll arrived and it's not that bad. It definitely doesn't look as good as the original photo (probably that has been styled, professionally photographed and photoshopped), but it looks more like Joan than the Debbie and Cyndi dolls look like them. The dolls may vary slightly as well. I've seen some pix that look pretty bad. The hair and pose vary a little, but the packaging is the same. (Look on ebay to see more pix.) Anyway, being a Joan Jett fan, I'm happy to have this for my collection.

"I first saw The Joan Jett Doll in my Barbie Catalog, back in last year..I ordered it so I would have it for Christmas,(Since Iam a avid Doll Collector, not just Barbies),and seeing they made a "Joan Jett Doll", well I had to have it,Growing up in the "80's and being a fan of Joan, that Doll was mine...
I gave it 4 stars only because The details of Barbies Magazine about the Doll dosent even come close to what she really looks like,or I wouldve gave it 5..Plus if you look at the picture of "Joan Jett Barbie", in Barbies Magazine, you'll notice the two major description defects of the Doll.. First The Picture in Barbie Magazine shows Joans Doll with very red lips, second the picture of Joans Doll in Barbie Magazine shows the hairstyle being swept towards the face and a much realistic style of Joans Hair.. When I got the Doll,I was excited of course cause thats the first of a "80's Icon that they started to make..I noticed right away that my Doll had Orange Lip's and not dark Red Lips, and her hair was as I say,not styled at all, very unlike the picture shown, like they put a wig on the Doll but didnt bother to give it any shape, like the picture..And one little thing, I noticed, her eyeliner or her eyes werent as huge as the Doll in Magazine,Her eyes had a heavy eyeliner, and even made to look like her, but mine, her eyes just werent standing out like description..When I buy a Doll I really look her over cause I know more were made and there are always some differences you'll find, usually not major but enough that you pick another of same Doll like say at Toy's R Us.. I was very disappointed by the Hair which I even tried to style myself like in the magazine and the Lips which I thought I could take to a Doll Store and they could color them red..About her eyes, the one eye is fine, then the right sideed eye well its not balanced, the eye goes up,if you can get that, the right eye has a flaw.. I wont get rid of her of course I just thought I wanted to be truthful and to tell you what I found, to be not honest, or say Barbies description and even picture Of The Joan Jett Doll dosent Look like they portrayed.. Maybe I'll have my Doll lady color her lips, and style her hair?? Better not then It wont be original.. Just think Barbie couldve stayed with what picture they sent out to all of us,as Red lips, and that shag Rock style hair cut..

I got the doll in the mail opened it and thought it was disappointing. The fashion was on point. The face was a little more feminine than I thought. The hair was horrible. I had to take it out the box and fix the hair. Luckily I do One of a kind barbie originals. I had to comb and tease out hair out to make it look similar to the photo. It took me 10 minutes. The hair is a lot longer too. I wanted to cut it but didn't.

I love my Joan Jett barbie! I think it's perfect! I LOVE how the guitar has strings and how awesome it looks. I just love it! I just love Joan Jett and how cool would it be made into a barbie!? Seriously!?

I have to agree her lips are not red as other reviewers have pointed out. But my doll doesn't have pink lips either. To nitpick they are more rose-colored. As for the hair, it is closer to the promo picture than what is shown in the box photo. Maybe there is just inconsistency in manufacturing and it depends what doll you get. The other details are great -- chain necklace, zippers on the pants, stud bracelet and red "Converse" sneakers are great. This was a non-surprise gift and I couldn't be more pleased. Now if they'd only convince Chrissie Hynde!
