5.0 out of 5 stars Princess Of Ancient Mexico Review
I just got this doll today. She's gorgeous! Plus Princess Of Mexico comes in a new box where you can open it without removing the doll from box. She looks like an Aztec woman and wears a beautiful jade-green dress with colorful patters at the hem, carries a beautiful, carved gold fan unlike many barbies, an awesome headress with pink and blue flowers. Awesome doll to...

Yea, I SUPER hate that they changed the boxes mid-way thru the collection I have a MAJOR gripe about that. I just ordered this and the Navajo POTW Barbie. She isn't my favorite in the series however (they say "collect what you LOVE"), any collector knows you must have a complete set to up the value of a collection. When I first started collecting this series 4 years ago...

I love this collection and I don't mind about the boxes because most of the time I will de-box them. I love the color of her outfit and her face looks fine to me. The description on the back of the box has an error. It reads that llamas live in the Aztec land. Llamas are from the ANDES in South America.

This is my second doll from the DOTW collection. The artwork of the doll and her clothing are very well done. I advise purchasing this doll for the serious collector. It's a pink label doll so I am sure down the line this doll will be worth much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great doll to play or start a young collector, April 27, 2006

This doll is a great doll. Admittedly, the facial features look European. But, the more recent Barbies look less like a different pigment model of Barbie. You can see a good example in the Navajo Barbie. Plus, nobody I know has a body like Barbie. Overall, the Aztec Barbie is a great doll. The doll is beautiful and colorful to for little ones to play with or just to collect. It is unique with the headress and outfit-admittedly, the Inca Barbie is goregous with it's head dress and blue tafetta dress. But, the Aztec Barbie dressed more reasonably accurate.
I recommend it. Children will like to play with such a unique doll or to inspire a budding collector.
Aztec Barbie is a great doll.

She isn't my favorite in the series however (they say "collect what you LOVE"), any collector knows you must have a complete set to up the value of a collection. When I first started collecting this series 4 years ago (was it 4 or 5 years?), I only had the intention of gettting the one's I really liked. I lamed out and didn't get the Inca's Barbie but had all the others, my wonderful sis recently paid 3X's the original price for her as a birthday present for me, and I now have all 19 dolls in the series. All the dolls in the series are beauitful and very well done (IMHO).

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful way to learn about history!, July 13, 2004

The Dolls of the World Princess Collection has been one of the loveliest put out by Mattel for Barbie collectors, in my estimation. The outfits are historically accurate, and one feels like s/he is buying 'a piece of history' when one of the newest editions is released. This latest addition has the brand-new box design, with a double lid (top and bottom) which provides much more stability to its packaging and prevents a lot of the box collapse, plastic window damage and 'shelf wear' that occurred in shipping and storing with the box design of the first fourteen dolls. If you are a serious collector, boxes are part of the collectability and this is an important issue, especially if one is trying to hold the doll's value for the future. (This is the reason I gave the item 5 stars for durability.) The doll herself is a work of art...the face is exquisite, the dress is a simple but colorful and accurate cotton shift with manteau, and there is a plethora of 'gold' ornamentation in the jewelry. The hair is black and silky, and the gold-and feather headdress must be seen to be appreciated. As with the others in the collection, she has her own stand and COA with passport, should you care to display her out of the box (which does reduce the ultimate value). This doll's value should seriously appreciate in the future and she is a wonderful, colorful addition to the collection, whether you own only one other, or all of the others. I rate the doll with 5 stars for 'fun' simply because, to me, owning it is a joy. But if I were to give one as a gift, I would want it to go to an older child, perhpas at least ten or twelve years old, with an appreciation for the doll as an object of art, and not as a toy.

2.0 out of 5 stars The box is horrible for collectors, October 16, 2004

They changed the box from the previous years. As a collector I am not impressed. The doll is very beautiful, but is now very accessible. Both front and back of the box can be removed and the doll can be "played with". If you buy this from a store, you don't know if it has been NRFB. This would make the value for collecting go down. Plus, now my boxes don't match and look horrible (with the entire collection together). Overall I am very disappointed.

Princess of Ancient Mexico is my least favorite of the line to date. I have plans to collect the whole POTW series so I will probably eventually end up with one, but I'm not particularly looking forward to it. PoAM's headdress is apparently too small for her head therefore is pressing in on her temples and almost in danger of poking her eyes out. As far as I can tell, this problem does not exist in the prototype version showcased on BarbieCollector.com. Anyway, I'll most likely wait for a clearance on this one.
