This review is from: Barbie Diamond Castle Learning Laptop (Toy)
My 5 year old daughter bought the Barbie and the Diamond Castle laptop with her own money. I have to say, it was a good purchase, since she's gotten hours of enjoyment from it.The laptop is small and lightweight, measuring only 7 ½" x 6 ½" x 1 ¼". The screen is like all other toys of this type, a tiny 2" black and white LCD. The sound is a little loud for my taste. If you are in a quiet environment, like a doctor's office, better not take this along with you. There is no headphone jack nor volume control nor mute button. The music is electronically synthesized like in most children's toys, and most adults find that annoying. The children, of course, love it! The princess's voice is not crystal clear. It has the fuzzy muffled electronic tone to it. As I was playing, the princess asked me to find the letter "B" and I thought I heard "D." I think it could be a little confusing to children who are just learning the alphabet. The keyboard is laid out in alphabetical order with the consonants in blue and the vowels in yellow. The numbers are above that. Numbers one through six are in different shapes and colors. Above that are a choice of eight different games: 1) Castle ABC's: child must find a letter on the keyboard. 2) Gem Trove: child counts gems along with the princess and then must find the number on the keypad. Then, the princess says, "If I add [insert number] more gems [gems are added on the screen], how many gems do we have?" 3) Shape Kingdom: child must find the shape on the keypad which the princess verbally asks for and is also displayed on the screen. 4) Pretty Shape Counting: child must find the shape that the princess asks for and press it X number of times. 5) Treasure Pieces: child is presented with a sequence of letters (for instance, "A B _ D") and she must find the missing letter. 6) Tip Top Perfect: child spots the odd number or letter out. For instance, "Y Y O Y." 7) Charismatic Memory: a simple simon type game using the numerical keypad. 8) Musical Quest: three letters float on the screen to form a word. The child must remember that word and spell it. The games are not difficult. If the child doesn't answer correctly after a few tries, the answer is given to her. This is a good educational toy for preschoolers. It looks built for them, too; as the case looks like it can take a beating. I'd recommend it for every budding princess.

I got this for my 17 mo. old daughter before we went on a long fly to Denmark. I like it is pretty, size small, feel soild and nice sound. However, it doesn't have volum control (I wish could be louder for the car trip) and the screen is very small.I bought it for travel, so I like the size. If you are looking to buy a kid laptop and use it at home. there are many more choice besides this small laptop.

My 4 year old daughter received this as a gift and she loves it. She is just getting into Barbie (and has the Diamond Castle Movie). This has different games, including spelling, counting, and musical ones. I haven't looked at all of them. She is learning how to spell with it. If you are just looking for a laptop, I'm sure you could find others, but if your daughter is getting into the barbie stage, this is great. Also, it is very compact and easy for her to carry.

My 5 yr old spent her b-day $ from her Granny on this toy. She played w/ it once months ago and when she saw it on the shelf from the buggy she started screaming "That's it, That's it!". I didn't realize it had made such an impression on her! It has several learning games including a math game w/ addition and subtraction using pictures. It is easy for her to use and it is small enough that it is easy to cart along. She says she's "working" when she uses it. (Just like we work on our computer.) My daughter isn't really into Barbies but she just loves this toy. The keys are in ABC order and the vowels are colored yellow. It gives second chances and hints for wrong answers and is very positive and encouraging. Glad my daughter picked it out!

My friend gave this to my daughter for her 3rd birthday. My daughter loves barbie and she loves this computer. We have tile floor and she has dropped it a couple of times and it didn't hurt it. She plays with it everyday. I would buy this for a gift for a little girl 3 to 6.

I bought this for my daughter when she just turned 3 last year. It is the only toy that she still has interested in playing until now. She still likes it but I think she has learned everything from it already. So we bought her a more advance children computer last month. My daughter has learned all her letters from this computer since she was three. This computer is super durable and the condition looks almost new. I highly recommend it. It's handy and pretty to carry around (esp. on the road), like a little purse for my girl. The screen might be a little small but she has no problem reading from it. [...]

I purchased this for my 3 year old. She simply loves the larger barbie laptop her 5 year old cousin has. I was disappointed with the size but she didnt seem to mind but I found that this size fits in her backpack a whole lot better . It is educational and a bit challenging for her age but she does well.I highly recommend this.

My preschooler is familiarizing herself with the alphabet so this is perfect. It has enough games to keep her busy and the laptop is sturdy to withstand a 1yr old.

My daughter received this as a gift for her 2nd birthday. It hadn't really been used much at all until she turned 3. Now it's her favorite toy.I like how slim it is compared to many other toddler laptops. The carrying handle is great. It's a cute girly laptop. The display screen is very small, only 2 inches square and the pictures are very old school apple computer like images. The computer voice is also very computer like with an annoying (to me) Barbie voice mixed in. The screen does NOT light up which I was disappointed in as is my daughter. She loves all the games you can play and there are A LOT. She is learning a lot from it. My 4.5 year old niece played with this while we visited and she LOVED it as well. The price on here seems very steep for what it is, so shop around! I don't know how much it cost for the gift giver, but I sure hope she didn't spend this much on it! There are ones that look almost identical and sell for 1/4 of the price! The volume is EXTREMELY LOUD. I put a piece of tape over the speaker and it helps, but my daughter keeps taking it off. She loves this toy, it has provided hours of endless entertainment for her and it's very portable! |
