Coming from an Irish family, I have accumulated many different types of Irish collectibles over the years: stuffed animals, Beanie Babies, glasses, books, jewelery...all with some sort of Irish theme. But until recently I didn't have any Irish dolls, porcelain or otherwise. I have been collecting Dolls of the World Barbies for a number of years, and more recently Princess of the World dolls, so I couldn't believe it when I found out that a Princess of Ireland Barbie would be made. I was nervous that the doll wouldn't "feel" Irish enough. So when I received her in the mail I was pleasantly surprised that she was even more beautiful than in the photos online. Her complexion is very fair, and her auburn hair is stunning in natural light. Her green eyes are sparkling and mysterious, and she wears a very light rose eyeshadow that makes her beautiful eyes stand out even more. Her costume is sort of a medieval/Celtic blend. She wears a velvety soft forest green cloak with a golden Tara brooch clasp, a traditional Celtic design. Her dress is a crinkly olive green fabric with a stripe of Celtic designs down the middle. At her waist she wears a belt of three golden medallions with Celtic designs, and on her head, perfectly balanced atop her auburn hair, a golden crown fit for an Irish princess. The box she comes in is also perfect for displaying her in. Appropriately enough, it is green (Ireland is actually a Viking word for green) with golden trim. The backdrop inside of the box is an Irish castle. There is information about the Celts on the back of the box. This is sure to become a treasured keepsake in my family, and I'm planning on buying more for relatives and friends.

"Many years ago on the misty islands of the European continent, a noble race known as the Celts inhabited the land." (Mattel) Thus begins the information on the back of the box, which reads like a fairytale. Princess of Ireland is breathtaking. She is more incredible than any of the on-line pictures can show. Her complexion is fair, and her auburn hair shines with deep, rich color; a section on the left is braided, and cascades to her thigh. Her cheeks are dusty roses, her green eyes seem to twinkle, and her lips are the color of garnets. She wears a forest green velvet cloak; the clasp is a Tara Broach, "a very famous bejeweled pin thought to have been worn by Celtic royalty." The golden broach is the color of her crown and the three Celtic medallions on the half-belt at her waist. Her dress is loose fitting, as the time would indicate. Down the middle of the front of her gown is a 1" wide gold, green, and shades of rose trim that displays several Celtic designs. Behind the Princess of Ireland, there is a castle with several turrets. Should you choose to display this doll out of her box, a stand is included. Fun: She is stunning, and brings imagination the first time you glance at her. This is a very reasonably priced doll for collectors and as gifts for favorite children, they will love her -- another princess for their collections. Victoria Tarrani

My entire family, and most of my friends, are quite tired of the tirad that I had against Mattel. Everytime someone went with me to the toy department, they would be able to her my very bitter and all consuming rant against Mattel and they're inexcusable lack of a Irish Babrbie. The pithy excuse they came out with a few years ago did, in no way, grant a clear window into the breath taking beauty of Ireland, or for that matter, the Irish Lass. But, all that changed when I discovered the Irish Princess Barbie. The moment my husband saw her, he rushed down the aisle, calling me over to her. She is outstandingly beautiful. The information on the back of her box makes her a great teasure to behold. I can not believe that after the failed attmepts that Mattel started with that they were able to create such an amazing perfection of plastic. She is a joy that I will gladly pass tp my daughter and I am now the proud owner of two. (Well, I couldn't take them both out of the box, could I?) Thank you, Mattel. She is aboulutely perfect!

This is one of the most beautiful dolls I've ever seen. I think this editiion, which is the second edition, of this doll is the prettiest. She has lovely, Aubern hair, that's about knee length, with two thick sections of her hair braided on her left front-side, her lips are full, with lip-stick that closly matches her hair, and fair skin that brings out everything else about her. Her green eyes are magestic, with that serene up-lifted, side-glance. She's wearing a richly embellished Celtic, forest-green dress, and a emerald-green, velvet cape. Atop her head is a gold crown and she has a gold brooch attached to her cape, also a gold, Celtic, half-chain belt(which just so happens to be very much in style now). Inside the box is a background with a castle, grass, shrubbery, a tree, and a green sky with clouds. The only thing that they could have done better was put her in a bigger box for better display. She also comes with a dollstand, if you want to take her out of her box and display her and a certificate of authenticity. I wouldn't recommend this doll for young children, as can be a choking hazard and she's just too beautiful to risk ruining.

Princess of Ireland Barbie doll is very pretty. Green lavishes her eyes, cape, dress, and shoes. She has wavy reddish brown hair, which would be lovely if it hadn't gotten tangled in the box. Part of her hair has been swept into a style similar to a braid. A beautiful Tara Brooch has been pinned to her cape, emmulating a golden color shared by the Celtic designs embroidered down her dress and a crown she wears. I found the information included on the back of the box really interesting. I recommend this doll to anyone who loves Ireland, Barbie collecting, and/or world history.

THE PRINCESS OF IRELAND doll is stunning. Her best asset, besides her auburn hair, is her complexion. We are talking strawberries and cream here. She has deep green, mysterious eyes that make you feel like she is trying to tell you something. Her lips are a deep burgundy that complement her dress and together with her rich, dark green robe, make this doll seem to come to life. The background of the box is of a light brown traditional stone castle that always comes to mind whenever I think of Ireland. I really need to visit this country someday, being part Irish myself. The only bad thing I noticed is the ends of her hair are slightly tangled. But the all the previous features as well as the gold accents (the crown, the medallions on her waist and the golden brooch on her right shoulder of her robe, plus the lovely accents of gold on the dress) certainly make up for this one flaw. The other dolls in the "Dolls of the World Princess Collection" include the Princess of China and the Princess of the Nile. Two year limited warranty, certificate of authenticity, doll stand and dark green flat shoes accompany the PRINCESS OF IRELAND. Obviously a great value, she would be a fantastic addition to a collection or as a gift. THE PRINCESS OF IRELAND is definitely a keeper.

This Barbie just is not done justice by her pictures. The costume is so detailed, a Medieval-Celtic costume, topped with a Tara Brooch is so stunning. Fair complexion, red hair with Celtic braid, startling green eyes, Mattel has done an outstanding job on this Princess of Ireland. Excellent information on the box, makes this a perfect gift for your Doll Collectors of all ages.

This doll is very pretty. She has long wavy red hair, comes with a gold crown, velvet cape, and wears a beautiful green dress with a decorative belt that matches the crown. One of the better made Barbies, this doll has a nice face. Not one with too much make-up, but also not one with the usual Barbie grin.
Princess of Ireland Barbie is a collecter's doll, so don't be too upset if she breaks easier than some of your other dolls. Let me state that I've never had such problems with her, excluding the fact that one of the buttons broke on her dress, but that is incredibly minor, in my opinion. I gave this doll stars for education, because on the back of the box she comes in, there is a story that goes with this doll, that, although fiction, can tell you a little about Irish heritage. I would recommend that you, if a Barbie fan, or someone in search of a good Barbie, not only buy this doll, but visit Barbie.Com to read more about the Irish Barbie, and about a real Irish girl, and her day-to-day life.

The Princess of Ireland Barbie is a fine "starter" doll for Barbie collectors. Part of the very reasonably priced Dolls of the World collection, this particular Barbie stands out amongst equals. The doll has a particularly Irish look, having been graced with auburn hair and striking green eyes. Her green and gold gown is highly stylized, is detailed, and is designed with accurate Celtic cinquefoils and a claddagh brooch on her blue velvet cape, giving this Barbie a quaint Medieval/Celtic appearance. The display box is relatively ordinary compared with some Barbie display boxes, but the graphic shows a mist-enshrouded castle in the background. There is some interesting information on the ancient Celts on the rear exterior of the box. The fine quality of the costume and the small, detailed parts do not make this a good "play" Barbie for young children. Best to leave her in the box, purely for display. I have purchased this Barbie for three separate serious adult collectors, and she ranks as a favorite with all three women. The Princess of Ireland will make a lovely addition to anyone's Barbie collection.

Princess of Ireland is a great collectible, if you are "into" Barbies. But it's also a great first-time Barbie for any mom who 1) wishes there were some non-Blonde Barbies out there, and/or 2) wishes that her daughter did not think of her toys mostly as clothes-obsessed fashion models. This doll has luxurious long red wavy hair, great for pretend fairy-tale play, although of course she can wear any other Barbie's clothes as well. The dress and cape are a lovely dark green that complement her hair. My 5-year-old uses her for endless storytelling in which they are both princesses. They go out and conquer dragons together, which seems like a step in the right direction to her mom! |
