4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Challenging
My 6-yr-old daughter loves this game but definitely needs help with a lot of it, even on the easiest level. She was at first disappointed that she couldn't use the mouse but once she got the hang of the necessary keys she was off and running. Rolling, jumping, swinging, climbing, different lands and terrain, things to push and pull, things to avoid or collect... all of...

That's how the game ends - "To be Continued..." my daughter was quite disappointed. The game is ok but it is mostly running, jumping and the difficulty comes from timing and precision jumping. It certainly frustrated her and bored me at times. Overall she definitely liked it but she prefers Secret Agent Barbie much more. Graphics are good and engaging. My daughter's...

She was at first disappointed that she couldn't use the mouse but once she got the hang of the necessary keys she was off and running. Rolling, jumping, swinging, climbing, different lands and terrain, things to push and pull, things to avoid or collect... all of it is great fun! A much faster pace than the Secret Agent game, and thankfully none of those silly costume changes between "action" and "stealth" modes. This is a game we'll be able to play for years to come.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Barbie Explorer (CD-ROM)
i got this game 1 month ago and its fun but not that much! you can go in rivers and in ancient romes and even in snow storms! my favorite game is when you have to avoid the bolders coming at you and you have to hide in little rooms! ITS HARD. this is a worth it game and has many actions to it as in jumping and pulling pushing walking and running or even swinging!its get boring after but you get used it because it hooks you intrest untill you finish it! please dont buy it if you have a child over 11 because they will lose intrest in 3 days and its too hard for kids under 4 because of all the action so think before you buy

My daughter's favorite part is the movie-type scenes at the beginning. She was really excited at the end when it went in to movie mode "I love it when she does things by herself" but then - to be continued

2.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculously hard in places, July 24, 2005
This review is from: Barbie Explorer (CD-ROM)
My daughter could NEVER finish this without help. She loved much of it, but even on easy, I can barely get her through the tough spots and I'm a lifelong gamer, who often wins games online. Not too much brain in the puzzles, just timing and jumping. Just about impossible. I'd like to hear from someone who actually finished the whole thing. Further, the software is not written all that well. I tried to pass a couple tough spots by mashing three buttons at the same time, (left-straight and jump, for example to jump diagonally) the game seems to get confused. Also, other times you seem to have made a jump and you fall anyway, and sometimes jump doesn't jump when you really need it to. The best part? When you DO die, which is often, you go all the way back to the insipid start. The annoying part is, this could have been pretty good.

This game is rated for ages 6 and up, but even at the easiest level, it was so difficult, my 9-year-old was in tears.

4.0 out of 5 stars Barbie Explorer for PC, December 26, 2007
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Barbie Explorer (CD-ROM)
Hi, I'm StoryMaker. My older sister, Russian Blue Witch, gave me Barbie Explorer (for PC, a.k.a. computer) on Christmas. I started playing it today. OK, I've only started it, so it's a little early to review it...but hey, I love reviewing SO much, I guess I couldn't help it.

First of all, I'm not a really big fan of Barbie, but the Barbie movies and computer games are very entertaining! In this game, Barbie finds out about a mysterious treasure known as the Mystic Mirror. According to a map, she must go to the mountainous Tibet, the sandy Egypt, the leafy African Jungle, and the, um, existent Babylon, to find the pieces. (With specific country, continent, etc. names, it's almost educational!) The back of the box says there's 4 levels, but actually, it's more like 4 environments with 4 levels each. Go through the levels, collecting treasure, getting past caverns, and trying not to bump into absent-minded animals. LOL!

Remember: to find out the game's controls, PLEASE go to the VR Training. This game comes with NO user's manual. The VR Training is basically a place where you collect the question marks to get demo-videos that tell you all the controls you'll need. This is the only way I know of to find out the controls for the game, so please look at it before playing. Oh, and, to give you a head-start here's the basics: arrow keys to run & space bar to jump. VR Training will tell you the rest.

It would be better if you typed in your name instead of selecting the letters using arrow keys/enter, but heck, it's also for the PlayStation, so it could be expected. I also would be much happier if you could save any time or it automatically saved. You can only save every time you finish a level, so if you forget...you've got another level to finish.

This game is very fun to play, complete with large 3-D levels and all different types of obstacles & goodies. The main problem with the gameplay is that some areas require very good timing & speed, even on the Easy level (the one I'm on). You start off with 40 lives in each level, but it's still VERY hard to do some of those things. My older sister Russian Blue Witch is great at video games, but sometimes, she ended up draining my lives trying to get past some parts. I'd say that it's probably too hard for younger kids. It's probably best for ages 7 & up.

Graphics: Not perfect, but pretty good. 7/10
Gameplay: Very fun, but a little hard. 7/10
Storyline: Far from super, but could be PLENTY worse. 6/10
Overall: It's no-doubt fun enough to be worth the money. 8/10

I think this game is worth it. It's better for older kids due to challenging parts, but nonetheless, it is a VERY fun game. Check out other Barbie software! Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic, August 11, 2004
This review is from: Barbie Explorer (CD-ROM)
My 5 yr old son loved this game. It has been an amazing experience and although at times quite testing, there are help pages that you can print out. Incredible graphics and captivating levels set in Egypt, Tibet, Africa and at the end, Babylon. I bought it to whet my 4 yr old daughter's computer appetite but even though she enjoys watching her brother play it, she is not interested in all the manipulation herself. You won't be disappointed with this one. Top quality product.

3.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining game, January 9, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Barbie Explorer (CD-ROM)
My daughter enjoys the game at age 6 and her 9 year old friend also likes to play it when she visits. After install I worked with it for a while. The graphics will not overwhelm you and the dialogue will gag you, but the girls seem to enjoy it. The barbie tag is all over it so they are more tolerant of the games flaws than they would otherwise be.

1.0 out of 5 stars impossible, November 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Barbie Explorer (CD-ROM)
This is the WORST GAME EVER. (...)i couldn,t even make it through the first level of this "ages 6 and up" game. There was this thing called virtual training at the beggining, and it was really fun,but once you started the real thing,it was impossible. In the real thing, there were all kinds of new obstacles, like animals.Plus, you had to remember the different key combinations for running and jumping (ect.),and you had to jump at exactly the right time.there are only two good things i can say about this, virtual training, and it works on windows XP.Don't make the mistake i did in buying this game.
