I don't understand why so many people are saying that Midge is inappropriate for children. Since when is a pregnant woman inappropriate? Pregnancy and childbirth are a beautiful and natural part of life. Everybody gets here the same way so why are so many parents trying to shield their children from it? There are pregnant woman everywhere you go. It is natural for little girls to want to play Mommy and this doll is perfect for that!Midge also shows that a girl can grow up to "just" be a mommy if that's her goal. Just because little girls play with a pregnant doll does not mean they will become teenage mothers. It is a parent's job to teach their children about sex education and morals, not a toy's job. To all those people who find Midge "disgusting" - GET OVER IT!!

I love this doll. I have long been frustrated that Barbies have little to offer other than a beautiful figure and an unrealistic slant on womanhood. This doll is a real woman. My daughter watched my son's birth when she was 2. She loves this doll, and it takes the focus off of looking like Miss Universe, and puts it onto the beauty of motherhood.

What is the controversy with this doll about? I just don't get it. Women have babies. What is the problem here? Again, naturally speaking (evolutionally speaking), women have babies...There is nothing dirty, mad, or yucky here. One woman wrote that her little girl thought a pregnant Barbie was "odd". Maybe the adults around her had something to do with that. Really, this controversy is quite scary. Enjoy the doll or simply leave it on the shelf if your child is not old, bright or reared enough to handle it.

Black Woman Pregnant Is Not "BAD" or "Negative",

Mattel used Barbie and tried to place an positive image upon the black woman. Whenever you see a preganant black woman it is assumed that she is unwed and living in sin. Mattel had given us an positive image where the black mother can explain to her child the process of having a baby and a father and a Doctor (prenatal care). [Some stores] had refused to sell this doll. I do not think that this is a negative image in any way. It comes with all of the things that a baby will need and it also shows young ladies how a good mother will need things to take care of a healthy family. Midge comes with a wedding ring even, to show that she is married and she will not be a single mother. I just don't see what is wrong with that. It presents a good clean image of what a family needs. A mother, Father(sold seperately) and a Doctor! ...I give this Doll an exceptional rating. There is nothing wrong with creating a family. It's apart of life!

How can you say this toy is bad? GROW UP!,

To those of you who frown upon this doll...GROW UP! Midge has a HUSBAND and a SON, she is not a single "knocked up" doll, as some have said. Get your facts straight before you write something you have no idea about and make yourself look like a fool.A question for the ladies...how many times when you were young did you "pretend" to be pregnant by stuffing a pillow up your shirt? We ALL did it as young girls and if you say you didn't, you are a liar! By stuffing that pillow up your shirt, did that make you a slut? NO! Did that make you run out and get pregnant at the age of 10 or 11? NO! This is a wonderful doll, my daughters love it! My son even likes to play with Alan & Ryan. If you think it's a bad idea, I feel very sorry for you. I see the joy on my girls' faces when they play with this collection and there is no way I would take it away from them just because a few idiots still live in the 50's and are afraid to change.

This is not recommended for children under three except with parental supervision. Definitely, play with this doll with your little one.Education: If a second or third is on the way, this is one of the best teaching tools to show toddlers where the baby develops, and how mommy's tummy gets big then goes flat after the baby is born. The bond between mother and child can easily be seen, and kids can relate it to themselves, making the connection quite easily. I've seen this Midge and Baby Doll make a big difference in how the first child accepts the second. Fun: The belly is held on with magnets, so Midge can be either a sassy chick or a new mom-to-be. The kids enjoy the baby doll and all the special "Happy Family" accessories that are available. Truly, this is fun for kids. Durable: Like all dolls who are played with her pristine condition will change with happy fingers; generally, kids take the shoes off first. Mattel makes children's toys to be played with, as opposed to the Collector's editions. They will last; some will lose fingers to teething tots, but the joy of getting to that point is certainly worth this very low price. Why was there such a fuss among so many shops - actually pulling the pregnant Midge off the shelf? That does seem silly, doesn't it? But the ruckus was real. Congratulations to the brave storeowners who decided that this doll was a doll, not a controversy. Since pregnancy is a normal state before a child enters the world, take advantage of every tool possible to teach a two-year-old about the new baby that will come and alter their life. Set up a happy family with mom, dad, brother, baby, and now grandparents. Victoria Tarrani

As a Christian and an educator, I think this is a wonderful doll. The parents are married and have one child already. This is very educational and helpful. I am pregnant now and my little girl tries to pretend she is by stuffing her dolls up her shirt! With this doll, the child can role play what a family goes through with a new birth in the family. Highly recommended.

I bought this barbie for my 4 year old daughter. I am pregnant and due in a couple months. I found it very helpful not only to show her where babies come from, but also having the whole setting of the mother, father and brother and even the nurse. She loved it. It has made her more excited and more in tune to what is coming. It's wonderful!

I think this is a great idea. I wish I had one when I was growing up. I had to always stuff my Barbie's shirts to make them pregnant. I think a girl will use her imagination and play all sorts of ways whether or not there is a pre-made doll for it or not. A girl is influenced by her parents and environment not in what kind of dolls she plays with. My pregnant Barbie's were always married and the ones who were not married were not pregnant. This is how I grew up and so that is the way I played. No doll can be a bigger influence than her parents and therefore cannot corrupt her way of thinking.

This doll is absolutely adorable. I love Barbies and this entire set is about families and babies. Barbie is the doctor and Midge has the baby in her tummy. It's easily removed and abeautiful story. Many moms have toddlers and then have another one on the way. It is a simple and beautiful way to show the little one that the baby is in momma's tummy. Sometimes children don't want all the details - just a simple explanation. The wedding picture is on the box and Midge wears a wedding ring. What a wonderful love story and a sweet gift. Thanks Mattel. |
