Great fun for little horse-lovers!,
By ellejir "ellejir" (Virginia, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Barbie Horse Adventures: Mystery Ride (CD-ROM)
I gave this game to my Barbie-loving, horse-obsessed daughters *last* Christmas and it is still their favorite game. They love "riding around the ranch" looking for Lucky, the missing horse. They had a little bit of trouble moving Barbie and her horse around at first (especially with the jumps) but they caught on quickly once I showed them how to do it. They *really* enjoy picking out Barbie's riding outfit, selecting which horse to ride (including the mane, tail and saddle colors) and feeding and grooming the horses.
This is a fun game with lots of variety in the possible activities. Barbie can ride in a ring or around the ranch on trails, you can look for clues to Lucky's disappearance (stolen by a horse thief!) or solve puzzles. My daughters (ages 6 and 4 years old) adore this game and wish that there was a sequel to it!

Barbie and Horses: What girl wouldn't love this!,

This is the first computer game that my 4 year old daughter ever played and she can't get enough of it. There is a place to change how Barbie is dressed and even a place to "design" your own horse. My daughter had a little trouble figuring out how to use the arrow keys to navigate but after a couple of days of watching me she can do it on her own. She still needs some help when Barbie has to use the slingshot because it requires pressing and releasing the mouse button at a certain point. I don't really mind helping her because there are some things in this game that even an adult will find entertaining. I highly recommend this game for girls from 4 to 8 years old. The younger kids will need a little help and the older kids won't stay interested as long but it is a great game.

Great For Younger Girls,
By
This review is from: Barbie Horse Adventures: Mystery Ride (CD-ROM)
For young girls (6-10) just starting with an interest in "Mystery" games, this would be fun and entertaining. Small challenges - not too difficult, but skill-building for younger - make this interesting, but are too easy for more advanced game players. The graphics are okay, even though a bit stiff and cartoonish. Horse-loving girls will enjoy "selecting" their mount (including coat and mane color) and the opportunity to groom, feed and ride. You also get to choose Barbie's outfit and the style/color of your saddle and bridle.
My main criticism is that the game time was too short, but for beginners or younger children, this could actually be a plus.

The good or the bad?,
A Kid's Review

My mom got this for my sister for Christmas, and right away she wanted to play it. My mom got it, thinking that I could help her, since I LOVE horses. (I don't just love them, I LOVE LOVE them!) Riding through the trails, leaping over jumps, it's all good, but it was kinda easy. Okay, here's my reveiw:
THE RANCH: I liked herding the calves the best THE FOREST: I personally liked herding the goats the best. The campsite is kind of boring, and so is the flower mill. PRAIRIE TOWN: I liked this second best. Nestled in the canyons, Prairie town has only a few stores. I like the General store, because you get to herd the chicks back into their crate first. Other than that, the other things are okay. DESERT GARDENS: I liked this too, because you get to race against a girl on a pretty grey/white horse! But that's all I like about it. And at the end, Teresa, Lucky's owner, gives Barbie a special surprise; Luckys tiny foal! Although you can't ride her, you can brush her, feed her, and visit her anytime you'd like. You don't get to name her, so my sister and I called her Lucky Bellamey, Bell for short. After that, you can just ride around and have fun. I guess I think this game is more good than bad, but that might be because I LOVE LOVE horses!

Fun for beginners!,

My 4-1/2 year old got this for Christmas and she just loves it--so do I! It is quite cute with many mysteries to solve, it gives great early computer experience and has several games within. Of course it has the Barbie clothing changes, horse color changes etc. that add that fun Barbie touch that girls love. I thought the horse was very realistic, she gets on and off and jumps too! Great introduction and fun for the early "gamer"!

For $20 I thought this would be something a bit more. The "adventure" is a bit boring and doesn't change much each time you play it. The navigation is quite poor compared to other games. Plus there's quite a bit of stutter on some of the vocals (I run a fairly fast machine with 768MB of RAM so I know it's not that). All in all, three stars may be a bit much, but my daughter likes it and I guess that's all that counts.

Great for 5-year olds,

My 5-year old daughters have played this game for months, and they can't get enough. It took a little while for them to get used to the keyboard controls, but once they got the hang of it, they play this more than anything else. After "solving" the game countless times, they still love to dress up their horses and decorate the pavillion.
The puzzles are challenging enough to make them think but aren't so difficult that they get frustrated.

GREAT!,

I really like this game. I love changing Barbie's outfit(Different every time) and the horse's colors(also different every time). A show horse named Lucky is stolen just before the big race! My favorite part is the desert gardens. Below are the things you do on each trail.
FOREST TRAIL: First you have to go to the campsite and use a metal detector to find a clue. On the third try you will find a horseshoe and will have to see if any of the prints match the shoe. Then you'll go to the treehouse and herd some goats into a pen. Then you will pick up some scaps of paper and put them together. Then you go to the old flour mill and knock the rocks out of the way to lower the brige. Then inside the mill you need to move groups of two or more flour bags that match. If you move enough flour bags, you'll find an important clue. PRAIRIE TOWN: The first store I always vist is the flower shop, but you don't have to. You have to click on matching boucect of flowers. Then you have to put the flowers on the winners bouckect. Next I vist the antque shop, where you have to match up pairs of jewelry(simmalar to flour game). At the bottem you'll find a watch with red hearts that turn to open the watch. When you open the watch, You'll find another clue. Then I vist the general store, where the owner needs help sorting things. You need to turn the chutes to guide the falling fruit into the corect barrels. When you are done, the owner will show you another clue. DESERT GARDENS: This is my favoet trail, and I'm not going to spiol the suprise. AFTERWARD...: Now you have to find out who the theif was useing the clues. Then you have to decorate the winners area useing Bonus Bags found on the trail. When you play a game, you win Bonus Bags, and if you play a game again, you get extra. I highly recomend this! ~Russian Blue Witch

Barbie Horse Adventures Mystery Ride,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Barbie Horse Adventures: Mystery Ride (CD-ROM)
My nickname I use on the internet is StoryMaker and I got Mystery Ride CD-ROM for my 8th birthday or so. Why do people say it's not for 8 years old or higher? It's fun for me and all of my sisters! It's even fun for my sister who's internet nickname is Russian Blue Witch! She's a BIG KID!!! (What I mean by big kids is 10 years old to 17 years old.) It's also fun for my younger sister, Chocolate Dog. She's in the cute little kids age range witch is for like 3-7 years old about. Now I will make different sections of my Mystery Ride CD-ROM review.
GRAPHICS: A 3D look that is kinda cool but then again kinda ugly. NAVIGATION: Navigation is great! We love how you use the arrow keys to guide Barbie thru a 3D world...awesome! REPLAYABILITY: Even though Lucky, the missing horse, is always in the same place, the clues and theif are different and those fun activities make it very replayable. THE PLOT: Someone stole a black horse named Lucky. Solve the mystery and get Lucky back before the race! BUGGINESS & MORE: Installs fine on Windows XP computers and not very many annoying faults called bugs, only since it is 3D there are 3D bugs. OTHER & OVERALL: We didn't like Auto-Jump so we pressed the options button on the sign-in screen and turned it off, but then we were annoyed. "Oops! We didn't press the spacebar to jump!" over and over again is said. Anyways, I recomend this for horse lovers, mystery fans, and youngsters. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
