My kids saw the Barbie Thumbalina movie and really wanted this. They were thrilled, although it hasn't inspired hours of creative play. Good quality product - we've had for several months and still looks great.

When I first saw the Barbie Thumbelina line, I thought they were fun and cute; more suited to my two preschool age daughters maturity than the over-sexualized and curvaceous regular sized Barbies...until I saw this. How can a doll wearing thigh-highs (called tall stockings by the representative from Mattel I spoke to) be deemed appropriate for 3 year olds? Have we become so desensitized to increasingly sensual images that something like this doesn't even faze us? How soon will it be before little girls playing with dolls like this start to want to dress like this? Please do not buy this product for your young impressionable daughters.

Yeah, this doll has a decidedly fresh, non-typical Barbie feel to her above the waist...and her included flower-wing thingies fit on her back rod easily, but what's with her risque hip thrust and the dominant hand-on-hip body language? I beg your pardon, but how did the previous reviewer who was upset about the thigh-highs miss the above (although I can slightly understand her losing composure due to the fact that thigh-highs remind one of the fact that garter belts and exotic dancers do exist, and that maybe Joybelle has one hidden back at the oak tree she lives in when she is not, um, workin' at the local "dance club" in the wee hours). Three stars for ed. value due to the fact that adults can disseminate classic Thumbelina facts instead of the whole "Twillerbee" deal. Pass on this gal. (Yes, I know that the word "risque" has an accent above the "e"; maybe one day I will "enlist" that key.)

9/29/11: Hey, if my prose wasn't helpful, just take a look at the doll pic...it will induce shudders and gagging.
