While this is not a working vacuum cleaner--and will not fulfill parental fantasies for the kind of playtime that has youngsters cleaning up messes rather than making them--the Barbie Clean with Me vacuum is still a sturdy, colorful little unit with some nice features. This reviewer's favorite is the trailing-off sound that it makes when you turn it off, just like a real vacuum cleaner motor. Other pluses include the volume level (not too loud!) and the chamber of whirling particles that make it look like the vacuum is really cleaning. A chirpy voice that says, "Hi, it's Barbie! Let's vacuum!" brings out the campy 1950s-style prohousework propaganda that's inherent in this toy--not that there's anything wrong with it, but I only wish they also made one aimed at boys. My 4 year old daughter had her heart set on a vacuum cleaner for her birthday. She had picked out the red Hoover vacuum which really works and picks up small trash off of the floor but is a Barbie freak so instead of buying the Hoover, we purchased the Barbie one thinking that it would be perfect for her. Much to our surprise, it only makes real vacuum noises. It does not really clean. We returned the Barbie vacuum and purchased the Hoover for several dollars less.

I spent a lot of time looking for a vacuum for my Daughter. She wanted one that worked. I had almost given up when I happened on to the Bissel barbie GoVac. It is a real reachargable Kid sized vacuum the same as there GoVac with one less handle piece and Barbie Design. It costs a little more, but you don't have to replace the batteries, which in the end saves you money!!

I got this vacuum for my daughter when she was 3 she is now 5 1/2. I decided on this one because it was Barbie and looked so pretty, actually resembles mine except for the colors. I just didn't see the point in insisting on getting her one that really vacuums. It is a toy after all, I have a real vacuum to clean up. Plus it seemed to me like just another thing to go wrong (something to get clogged or break). My daughter never missed that part of it, and has had fun just "pretending". It sounds like a real vacuum too.The only minor durability issue I had with it was that after a while the pedal for adjusting the handle broke. I'm sure it's probably from my daughter being too rough, forgetting to step on the pedal and instead forcing the handle to go back. Just something to watch out for; make sure that they know how to operate it. We still have this vacuum and after all this time my daughter often still gets it out to help me vacuum.
