5.0 out of 5 stars
Best game my daughter owns (by a Dad/Gamer),
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Barbie and the Three Musketeers (Video Game)
After seeing all the negative reviews, I feel compelled to write a review for this game even though I've never written one on Amazon before. First off, graphics do NOT a good game make. Does this game use the Wii's full capabilities or motion controls? No. It is a 2D platformer, just like everyone says. However, the actual GAMEPLAY for this game is some of the best I've seen for my 6 year old.
The other people reviewing the game seem to be doing so from a perspective of whether THEY want to play it. The graphics are lame? They're not 3D, but the art style is very well done and captures the spirit of the movie. I thought the graphics were actually quite charming. No motion controls? True, but the motion controls in other games have been disastrous for my kids. They are always quirky and unresponsive, and my kids just get frustrated with them. This game has simple, straightforward controls that are much easier for my daughter to do without my help. As for the gameplay, it is a classic 2D platformer. There are coins to collect and puzzles to solve. As you progress through the game, you unlock the different girls from the movie, and each has a different ability to help navigate the levels and get to previously unreachable coins. You can switch between the girls on the fly after unlocking them. The nature of the gameplay actually makes my daughter think and problem solve while she plays - which is fantastic! In contrast, we also have the "Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey," game that people are recommending so highly. While my daughter did like it, that game is mostly follow the gems from A to B, shake your controller to disolve baddies along the way, then play a mini game like "move the cart left to right to catch the gems." Please folks... not exactly groundbreaking - although it does have 3D graphics and Wii motion controls, so I guess that is what is important... Overall, I have been very impressed with this game. My daughter loves it, and I would highly recommend it probably for the 6-8 age group - for younger than that it will probably be a bit too hard, and for older it will probably be too easy. If your daughter fits the age group and you've been thinking of picking this up, PLEASE DO! I for one would like to see more games like this one for my kids, with good game design design that engages them in multiple ways rather than the poorly designed (but fully motion control capable!) junk they usually push for the kids.

This is NOT a Wii game, this is a gameboy-level 2D platform jumper with decade old graphics! You won't find a picture of the actual game play on the box or even in the manual. The pictures they do show you are right out of the movie which you get to see short cut scenes of occasionally between levels. Here on Amazon I see they have a 3+ minute video (again without any screen shots) and a short 30 second video with a little of the actual game play.
The game basically does not use the specialized Wii motion controls at all and the 1% it does require them feels slapped in at the last minute and simply confused my daughter. For example, to knock on a door you have to be standing in front of it, then press A+B at the same time, then wave the remote like your knocking. Why require the A+B button for that? Plus the way you need to hold the remote to play the game makes it difficult to press the B button at all, much less both at the same time. It's almost impossible to die (which is good for young kids) and the non-existent violence level is great (even the rats run away instead of dying) but the complexity of the jumps and the difficulty of some of the mazes means the young kids can't complete the game without help and older kids will find the game dull, the graphics boring and gameplay too easy. After playing FOR my daughter (who could not handle the timed jumps) for about an hour, I doubt the game will ever be placed back into the console. On a good day I'd almost consider giving the game 2 stars but it looks to me like they knew the game was terrible and did their best to hide this from potential customers. For that reason I'd give it negative stars if I could.

Tears of Frustration,

My daughter loves the Barbie 3 Musketeers movie, so when I saw this, I thought it was a big score.
I was wrong. I don't know why they even bothered making this a wii game, it is totally 2-D and doesn't use the motion detector aspect of the wii. The graphics are lame and the games boring. Your daughter will have to collect gold coins (Mario style) which she cane spend at the shop. However, they make the items overpriced and the girls can't "try on" the clothes. They can just buy them and hold them in inventory. Lame. My daughter was used to the motion detector wii games and this one was so frustrating for her. She had a hard time figuring out the controller (held sideways, so she was always 'losing' the buttons). She was both frustrated by the controller and bored with the games. After a few tearful fits when the avatar wouldn't do what she was telling it to do, we took it away from her. It's going in a yard sale. If you are going to get a wii game for your little ones, I recommend the Disney Princess game or the Diego Safari Adventure game. She loves both and plays them all the time. 2115|R116OGA8MX10LT;2115|RXIM3IXW8R3M9;2115|RV4P9RZ5QCFOI;
