Product Description

Editorial Review

"Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" A good witch, of course--and pretty as well! Dressed as Glinda, the good witch of the North from the beloved book and movie The Wizard of Oz, Barbie is welcomed to Munchkinland. She has long, curly strawberry-blonde hair topped by a tall lavender-pink crown, and she's wearing a sparkling pink satin ball gown ornamented with silver stars and butterflies. She also has on a silver braided belt. Her outfit is completed with pink heels and a long, lavender magic wand that fits in her hand. Raise her arm (or press the button on her back), and you'll hear the wand's magical "brrinnng!" sound or Glinda's voice saying, "Tap your heels together three times." Sound effects are produced by three included button cell batteries, which can be replaced. Say it again, Glinda, just so we'll never forget: "There's no place like home." --Marcie Bovetz

Glinda, part of Mattel's recent Wizard of Oz collection, is just lovely. Her costume and hair is beautiful. A neat feature of the doll is when you apply pressure, she says, "Tap your heels together three times", her famous line from the movie. Fun item for Barbie fans and Wizard of Oz fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Witch/Good Doll/Good Price/Good Fun (Be Careful!), January 11, 2001

I bought this Barbie for my 3 1/2 year old daughter, who loves the Wizard of Oz. I'm glad I did and so is she! Really though, I don't suggest purchasing this doll for a child any or much younger than my daughter. Unlike most Barbies, there are even more pieces to choke on and to lose with beautiful Glinda.

Gracie lost Glinda's shoes almost immediately after opening her, which is common in our home, anyway. Next her crown got lost and finally her wand, well half of her wand (it's in two pieces for some reason) got lost, which doesn't make this Barbie much of a Glinda, does it?

The doll itself is a beauty though! Her hair is thick and has stayed relatively in place. Her gown is stunning and the plastic accessories are nice.

I doubt "Barbie" needs to be detailed. What's unique though is that this Glinda Barbie emits phrases that sound just like Glinda of the movie. There is a hidden button located on the base of her back to cause this sound. Alternatively, her right arm can be lifted and used as a lever to create this same effect.

I recommend Barbie as Glinda for Barbie and for Wizard of Oz collectors and as a unique Barbie for a little girl. Be cautioned however, there are small pieces which are choking hazards. Additionally, there are easy to lose pieces, which are crucial to the "Glinda" character, so this doll might not be your first choice for a very little child.

The little girl in me loves Glinda!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a Barbie, February 21, 2002

For Christmas this year, I bought my eight year old daughter the entire Wizard of Oz cast. Barbie as Glinda is 2nd only to Dorothy. Glinda's dress is beautiful, and she even talks. I imagined my daughter spending hours acting out her favorite scenes from the book and movie instead of the usual Barbie and Ken scenes. Her imagination has been sparked, but I still had to insist that she not change any of the Wizard of Oz characters' clothes. Ken as the Tin Man, Lion, and ScareCrow are good as well. If you're considering buying as a collector, I highly recommend the whole set. If you're considering buying it because you want to discourage your child's usual way of playing with Barbies, give it up.
