This review is from: Barbie's Ken as Star Trek's Mr. Spock Doll (Toy)
I love star trek and barbies, so this purchase made sense. I was upset, however, that for $40 Mr. Spock would have been designed so poorly. His outfit was good, as was his phaser and tricorder and boots and all that, but I was extremely disappointed in his hair. It wasn't very neat and about as hard as it could be with whatever type of hair spray Mattel uses for dolls. It also didn't look very much like Mr. Spock. His eyes seemed to be painted unevenly also. All in all, it seemed that these Star Trek dolls were massed produced quickly and without care to make the biggest profit. Nevertheless, it is a wonderful display I have of all the dolls from Star Trek.

Nice doll - but not the best in the series,
This review is from: Barbie's Ken as Star Trek's Mr. Spock Doll (Toy)
This is a very nice Star Trek doll, though it does suffer in comparison to the Kirk and Uhura Barbies. Spock's shirt is nicely deatiled with piping around the edges and the 'star fleet' pattern texture (though this is painted on and not a part of the weave). The Star Trek communicator logo is 3D and not a patch or painted on item. The military braiding at the cuffs is also nicely detailed (looks like braiding) and sewn in separately for a more realistic feel (though it lacks the 'texture' detail of Kirk's). The pants are sewn with extra details that specifically match the costume in the movie - they aren't just brown pants. The communicator and tricorder are also well done. The molded vinyl boots also carry quite a bit of detail.
The doll's likeness to the movie character is fine but perhaps missing some of the directness of the movie character. His hair is VERY stiff (unlike the Kirk doll)and looks more like a helmet even though it is rooted hair. As with the other dolls, the undershirt is not separate and just sewn in at the top - I would have liked to see a full undershirt underneath. Oddest of all, the way the hair is stiff and cut makes the ears look rounded. I'm going to need to take some small trimmers to the hair to make the pointy ears stand out because the doll looks like a human and not a vulcan. I would have liked the ears to stand out away from the head rather than being molded solid against it. In all, I'd rate this an excellent doll/character. Suitable for both boys and girls, it definitely doesn't feel like a Barbie doll.
