I purchased this book on the hopes of visiting beautiful Barcelona this year with my wife. Both of us are from a rural area and a bit naive when it comes to scams and pick pocketing. I am glad I picked up this book because it really opened my eyes on how to not be a target for pick pockets. It think the advice in this book is great if you are going to Barcelona because it offers specific areas to avoid or be aware of the scam that is prevalent in certain areas. But it is also a good book if you are traveling anywhere. I definitely recommend this book - especially if you are as naive about the world, like I am! Thank you for the advice, Jonathan Stone! I am sure I will think twice about how I am putting myself out there now when I travel anywhere.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK December 10, 2013

It has useful information for any large city. We were just in Barcelona in Nov. After reading this, I thought I was going to encounter scams at every corner; quite the opposite, we saw none of these, except maybe the high priced food trucks at the tourist sites. We did go in the off season and we were always at our hotel by 11 pm. We were also aware of our surroundings, planned our walking tour before heading out, dressed conservatively, and used cross-body purses. I never felt uneasy and we walked alot to various tourist destinations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read for Travelers August 2, 2014

I rarely read travel related books, but recently my sister in law moved to Spain and during her first trip to Barcelona her wallet (and the wallet of the friend she was traveling with) mysteriously disappeared. She has NEVER lost a wallet before so of course she suspected that someone stole it. After all that happened to her I just had to read this book, and now that I've read it I'm pretty much convinced that she was a victim of some type of Barcelona scam.

Prior to reading this book explaining common scams, I always assumed keeping a wallet/travel bag inside your jacket was enough. I've traveled overseas with no incident several times, and honestly would not have thought there were so many ways to catch a visitor off guard. Flat tires, girls flirting, and things like that would seem pretty common place to the average person and not like a potential robbery set up. While this book has made me a little paranoid about my first trip to Spain, I do recommend it to any traveler because paranoia is better than losing everything in your wallet while on vacation.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Heads Up August 17, 2013

Standard heads up info for travelors. Hope not to see some of these scenarios on my upcoming trip. But it's good to be aware of the possibilities of these traps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let yourself have a bad day. October 18, 2013
I'm a seasoned traveler and know of a lot of the common scams used on tourists but it's always good to be up to date with what's happening. There were a few new ones that I'd never heard of so buying this book has been worthwhile. I would hate to think of this book falling into the wrong hands!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting. Recommended! March 3, 2013
By DJ
I really recommend this book to anybody on their way to Barcelona this year. I have been once before and remember some of these scams happening to other people in our hotel. It's clear the author very much loves the city and wants to make it a better place for tourists, i can't wait to go back :) I'll definitely be more careful after reading this and also hopefully save some money by not falling for the 'tourists traps' as I'm sure I did last time!
