Two Good Ol' (Cow)boys Havin' Fun,
By Sam Fletcher (sfletcher@energyintel.com) (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Bard And The Balladeer: Live From Cowtown (Audio CD)
If you enjoy pure western music and the macho fun of cowboy poetry, this is THE album to own. Waddie Mitchell's poetry is full of grit, gravel and rough horseplay one moment, then tender as a flowering bud the next. And Don Edwards provides a melodic counterpart to his readings with one of the best voices in any kind of music. Just check out his range and delivery in a reworking of the Marty Robbins classic, "The Master's Call," as well as "Cattle Call" and "Say Goodbye to Montana." The real jewel of the album is Mitchell's reading of "A Bad Half Hour" to Edwards' accompaniment of "Annie Laurie." Then they cut loose and milk the laughs with "Yuppies in the Sky." They're having a great time and their live audience is, too, as they join in on the closing number of "Home On the Range." If you're from the West or just like the cowboy spirit, you've got to love this album!

A truly great live performance,

Don Edwards and Waddie Mitchell alone, are trully gifted artists in their own relm. But when put together on stage they bring forth the true meaning of the western cluture in song and verse. Anybody who enjoys western music should pick up this CD along with anyother recordings they can find. With the recent passing of Gene Autry & Roy Rogers, Don Edwards is the best solo performer of our time to maintain true western song.

I have loved Edward's music for years and have enjoyed Waddie's poetry as well. The synergism of this combination makes the whole better than the sum of the two parts.
