I have been using this makeup line for years, and at first I didn't like it. I then found out that I wasn't doing it right to get the coverage I needed. It's important to get enough makeup in the brush. At any rate, I now love it and can't imagine using anything else. This makeup has really improved my skin over time, I have terribly oily skin and liquid foundations just...

2.0 out of 5 stars Acne prone skin- This is not good for u
If you have acne prone skin, this is not the finishing product for you because it is 90% corn starch, and this is a huge NO NO for acne. Corn starch breeds bacteria, which causes inflamation-Acne. It's odd that BM would use corn starch, and bill themselves as "good for skin". Sheer miracle makes a great finishing powder that is matte, and consists of the mineral...

I have been using this makeup line for years, and at first I didn't like it. I then found out that I wasn't doing it right to get the coverage I needed. It's important to get enough makeup in the brush. At any rate, I now love it and can't imagine using anything else. This makeup has really improved my skin over time, I have terribly oily skin and liquid foundations just turned to mud by the end of the day. Now, if I go without makeup for a few days I break out, instead of makeup breaking me out like it used to. I can't say enough about this stuff, it's great. If you use it and find you don't like it, you may want to visit with someone else who uses it or the counter because it's possible you aren't getting it quite right. That was the case with me.

I started using Bare Escentuals because my Mother started buying it from QVC. Now their popularity is gaining and you can find it more locally than before. I got the tinted mineral veil through a kit and really liked it. The regular mineral veil is great too but what I like about the tinted veil is that it gives you a hint of healthy color that not everyone has on their own. If you pick a lighter shade of because you have a fair complexion don't worry that it will make you too dark - like a bronzer may. This gives you a sun kissed look.

If you have acne prone skin, this is not the finishing product for you because it is 90% corn starch, and this is a huge NO NO for acne. Corn starch breeds bacteria, which causes inflamation-Acne. It's odd that BM would use corn starch, and bill themselves as "good for skin". Sheer miracle makes a great finishing powder that is matte, and consists of the mineral serecite, which is less aggravating to skin. Sheer Miracle also makes this amazing blush (in apricot)that reminds me of Mallys' blush, but is much better for your skin. The SM apricot blush alos does not contain bismuth oxide, which tends to settle in creases, and makes skin look older. SM's foundation lacks coverage of BM.

Another mineral based makeup line is Everyday minerals. This does come in several choices like semi-matte, matte etc. and does not contain bismuth oxide, but also lacks the coverage of BM. Also their finishing powder isnt that great, but the soft bronzer is a nice highlighter to shallow out those chubby cheeks.
Both SM and Everyday offer sample kits for free on their website. this is a great way to try different shades.
BM also DOES have talc in it, although it is labeled as Mica- this can be a problem for acne prone skin as well, or anyone allergic to talc/mica.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Cake, August 1, 2006
The beauty of this product is the sheer coverage. You can literally apply this 20 times and it doesn't cake or flake off or make you look pasty like other powders. This is what you use after you apply the foundation powder and it keeps away shine and makes your skin look matte. Recently I had to be on camera and found that this powder really helped to keep my makeup set while waiting for an interview. I've seen the women wearing this on TV and their skin looked flawless. "Absorbs Oil" is an understatement. This also perfects your skin while it clears up any shine. The main ingredient is a very fine cornstarch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, February 26, 2008
I was so excited to try this make up after seeing commercials/getting emails that advertised Bare Minerals as, "...crushed minerals, free of preservatives, oil, fragrance, talc and other potential irritants."

The mineral veil contains PARABENS, chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic industries. I hope they stop using these chemicals, until then I am off to find something else.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but..., July 31, 2006
I like the way it looks on my face. The only problem is that it rubs off very easily and will mess up your clothes if you're not careful. Case in point: I turned to look behind me once, which caused my chin to brush across my shoulder and some of the powder rubbed off onto my shirt. It left a big beige streak.

5.0 out of 5 stars No rosey cheeks yet I look natural, June 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been using this product for over a year. It is cheaper to buy it here even with the shipping costs.

It is important to use this product properly. Get a good brush, and before applying, tap the extra powder off and buff it on. If you apply too much of it and don't buff it, it can look weird. Mineral veil is meant as a topper coat over the bare Escentuals foundation powder. The mineral veil topper powder really makes my skin look naturally even in tone.

I do sometimes wear the foundation powder without mineral veil but my face looks so much better if I take the 30 seconds to do this final step.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect finish especially for oily skin!, March 18, 2007
BE's mineral veil is spectacular. If your pores are larger, apply first and your foundation will go on much smoother...apply at the end of your routine and you will not have to worry about having an oily, shiny face all day long! Don't even think about those oil blotting wipes anymore!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes My Day SO Much Easier!!, March 21, 2006

Teaching high school for troubled teens leaves me hassled, frazzled BUT still needing to look professional and presentable.
This product, used after a gentle face buffing with a kleenex to remove sweat, ink, etc, will give a soft, clean looking light matte finish. Using the kabuki brush is essential but with this product and a light lip gloss, flick a comb through my hair and I can take on probation officers, incarcerated parents, and the rest of my nutty world with confidence. Great line--use with confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars great translucent powder, January 18, 2007
The purpose of Mineral Veil is to set Bare Escentuals foundation and to finish your look with a dewy glow. To use, you tap a small amount into the lid of the packaging and rub a kabuki powder brush into it in a circular motion. The brush picks up the powder into the bristles, and you buff the brush into your face using the same circular motion. The product glides on smoothly - although it is a powder, it contains an extra ingredient that allows you to buff it on so that the finish is silky smooth. The infomercials claim that Mineral Veil makes your pores vanish, but this is an overstatement. It does a very good job of smoothing you over, but it doesn't completely hide your pores. One more thing: the original Mineral Veil is pinky-peach toned. I have yellow undertones and the product is great on me, but I'm not sure how it would work for someone who is olive toned or has darker skin. If your skin is olive toned or darker, you might consider trying the tinted version. It is a very good translucent powder though, and I highly recommend it.

*This extra ingredient is bismuth oxychloride and is only added for this purpose of helping the product glide on smoother. Because of the addition of this product, a lot of people are skeptical of BE's claim that their products are 100% pure.
